On America’s Got Talent, people come from around the globe to try and make it big in Hollywood.

Not every person or group auditioning gets to share their story before they meet with the judges. But for the acts that we do get the backstory for, they are always powerful.

More often than not, the contestants on America’s Got Talent have gone through some form of trauma in their life. Some might call it a “sob story” but when people are willing to open up about their struggles, it is empowering.

They are able to be a beacon of light for someone who might be in the audience, watching from home, or even one of the judges.

Mel B had a similar story to one of the acts that appeared on the first episode of America’s Got Talent season 13.

We Three appeared on the first episode to perform an original song, called “Heaven’s Not Too Far Away.” It was dedicated to their late mother.

The song was written from their mom’s perspective, as she spoke to her children during her last month of life. The three siblings Joshua, Bethany, and Manny wanted to honor their mother after she passed away from cancer, and they felt taking the AGT stage was the best way to do it.

The group says that their mother taught them to breathe, but their father taught them how to be a band. When Simon Cowell asked for a bit of their backstory, Bethany said:

“Well, our dad had a family band with his siblings and we kind of decided to do the same thing.”

Their dad was backstage with host Tyra Banks by his side. The lyrics of their song packed an emotional punch. Their dad and Tyra were in tears by the end, along with some of the judges.

Mel B lost her dad to cancer a year ago, so she was able to relate to the siblings on a deeper level than the other judges. She had to wipe away tears during and after their performance.

Since it was shared on America’s Got Talent’s Facebook page, this video has gotten 4.9 million views, 112,000 likes, 86,000 shares, and nearly 6,000 comments.

One person pointed out the fact that the drummer is doing a lot more than just drumming:

Um is no one talking about the fact that the drummer is sometimes playing both the piano and drums at the same time. As a drummer, that’s sick. And, a beautiful song.

I felt so bad for Mel she was completely overcome with emotion during this song…anyone who has lost a parent knows how quickly that wound can be ripped open and the pain just consumes you…these guys did an amazing job I know I wouldn’t be able to keep my composure on stage singing this

Many commenters felt that the siblings had a Christian rock group vibe:
