Harry and Meghan haven’t been married long, and the excitement about the couple hasn’t worn off. People all over the world want to meet them, and many people have made them gifts. When one 19-year-old woman found out she was going to be in the same place as the couple, she wanted to make them an extra-special gift.
Chloe Mullins used her talent for art to create a charcoal sketch of the royal couple.
She worked on it for a long time and wanted it to be perfect. She wasn’t sure if they would even accept the drawing or if they would be willing to meet her. Still, she had to try.
Luckily for her, she did get to meet the royal couple.
Harry spotted Chloe among other fans, hanging over a railing and waving something at him. The couple walked over to her and took what she was holding. They were impressed by what they saw.
Harry said:
“That’s very, very good. Did you draw that? It’s lovely…And you’ve given me more hair!”
Chloe was thrilled.
The royal couple had accepted her gift, and they even talked to her about it. Her dream had come true. She explained her feelings, saying:
“Meeting them was incredible. I can’t get over just how genuine and lovely they are … I drew the picture before their [May] wedding as I knew I wanted to meet them and I hoped I’d get a chance to present it to them and luckily enough I was. The drawing took around 15 to 20 hours, which is not really that long for me. This was because I chose to use charcoal, so I could capture the nice blurred background. I loved the engagement photos by Alexi Lubomirski and just couldn’t help but draw one.”
Meghan also told Chloe that she thought the photo looked just like the original photograph she had used to make it.
Harry looked at the photo again and then asked Chloe if he could have it. She couldn’t believe what was happening.
She told him he could most definitely have it and couldn’t wait to tell everyone about her encounter. She shared her story on Instagram and said:
“Ya girl’s artwork going to Kensington Palace! Delighted to have gotten to talk to them and have them keep my drawing! They’re genuinely so nice…”
Later, she still couldn’t believe what happened.
It took her a while for things to sink in. Not only had she met Harry and Meghan, but they had asked her if they could have her picture. It was a dream come true. She posted:
“Still not over meeting them… couldn’t ask for a better compliment than Meghan saying my drawing ‘looked like a photo’ and was ‘so special.’ Great day!”
Chloe had planned on giving the sketch to the couple, but she never imagined that things would unfold the way she did. She didn’t think she would meet them or get to see their reaction to her creation. She also worried that they might not like it.
Everything had happened perfectly, and it was more than she expected. She said:
“I didn’t even think I would get to meet them. I thought I might have to mail it to Kensington Palace and hope for a reply. Overall, it was an unforgettable experience and I can’t thank the duke and duchess enough for their kind words.”
Harry and Meghan may be royals, but they are also very down to earth.
They always take time to meet the public and accept gifts from their fans. It’s no surprise that they were so kind to Chloe or so thrilled to see what she had made them.
They probably receive hundreds of gifts every day and are grateful for all of them. Who knows, Chloe’s sketch could be hanging somewhere in Kensington Palace right now. What a lucky and talented young woman.
