For those who don’t know, the White House threw a “Women of Soul” performance in 2004 to celebrate American women who left a profound impact on American musical culture with their work.
The incredible performance brought blues, jazz, soul, R&B and rock ‘n’ roll to the White House. As part of the performance, some of these incredible women wanted to pay homage to the queen of rock ‘n’ roll, Tina Turner. They chose to perform “Proud Mary,” a song that won a Grammy Award and is an essential part of Tina Turner’s solo performances.
The song was originally recorded by Creedence Clearwater Revival and had major success.
These women showed the world what soul is all about.
The video begins with an announcement that the performance is dedicated to Tina Turner.
It is an emotional moment for everyone at the White House because this performance brought together some of the most successful women whose musical careers left an enormous impact on everyone.
What was most moving is how these women could stand together, perform together and support each other.
Through the event, they proved that there is enough space for everyone in the spotlight and that music is what unites us all. These women had an incredible show and combined their incredible talents to make an unforgettable night for everyone at the White House.
“Proud Mary” was supposed to be a song about a strong woman who works hard.
The choice to perform ‘”Proud Mary” stems from the fact that the song is the story of one strong-minded woman.
These women artists on the stage are also very talented, have extremely powerful voices and have all experienced amazing success in their careers.
Their performance is moving because they honored Tina Turner with a song she performed plenty of times onstage. The audience is thrilled and they erupt in applause a few times during the song.
You know that you’ve done the things right if you have Barack Obama in the audience and he is having a great time! Just like the song says, the good mood kept on burning.
But the show went to another level when Patti LaBelle came up on stage.
LaBelle was announced as the godmother of soul and she completely justified that title when she started singing.
She woke everyone up and started the party! Everyone in the audience stood up and started dancing to the rhythm of the song. But in addition to LaBelle, other talented artists including Ariana Grande, Aretha Frankin, Janelle Monae, Tessanne Chin and Jill Scott performed as well.
The atmosphere is amazing and the video brings some really good vibes.
Everything about this video is perfectly done: these women are dressed in their best outfits, everyone is singing perfectly and the music is fantastic. The musical director definitely put in the effort to do it right! When the song ends, President Obama comes to the stage and says that this is what soul is all about.
Since it was posted, the video got millions of views.
The video was uploaded in 2014 and it was viewed more than eight million times.
This performance was part of a PBS music special and was taped in the East Room of the White House. Needless to say, these women deserve all the praise they can get and should be celebrated for their memorable songs and their hard work
