Lyndel Rhodes proves that age is just a number. The 92-year-old woman from Lexington, Tennesse has been passionate about music for her entire life. Just recently, she decided to start writing a couple of songs.
Her song ‘Little House on the Hill’ has gone viral because none other than Willie Nelson decided to perform it!
The famous country singer has been active for over half a century and is a country music Hall of Famer. When the singer first heard one of Lyndel’s compositions, he instantly fell in love and decided to lend his voice to it.
Lyndel was absolutely amazed that Nelson wanted to perform her song, and she was super excited about the whole thing.
“She couldn’t believe it,” her son Buddy Cannon said to People. “My mom is a very bashful, very shy person, but she was excited to no end. She never thought someone would sing something she wrote.”
The country song definitely is catchy, and it perfectly fits with Nelson’s voice and style. She wrote ‘Little House on the Hill’ during a car ride visiting her son, and it’s all about the home she grew up in and spent most of her years in Lexington.
“It’s a very personal song, so she was thrilled to hear it done right,” her son recalls. “She couldn’t stop smiling and her feet wouldn’t stop wiggling!”
For Lyndel, Music runs in the family, as she recalls her father playing the banjo along with her. Her brother Dalton mastered a couple of instruments and Lyndel herself has been playing the harmonica since high school. Even now all those years later, she still occasionally plays the harmonica together with her son Buddy.
It was also her son that filmed her as she heard Wille Nelson sing her song for the very first time.
“What are you listening to,” her son asks her. “Little House on the Hill!” she says with the excitement and joy in her eyes.
“Whose song is that?” Buddy asks.
“Mine!”
“And who sings it?”
“Mr. Willie!” the lovely woman responds. “Mr. Willie Nelson!”
The home that she wrote about in her song clearly has a ton of sentimental value and she was happy that Willie Nelson was able to perform it brilliantly.
“She saw me and my sisters grow up there and graduate,” son Buddy mentioned. “My stepfather passed away in that house. It holds a lot of memories.”
The whole video is just adorable. Lyndel can’t stop smiling and wiggling her feet.
Lyndel has her son to thank for this amazing moment. Buddy works in the music industry and decided to send a guitar vocal demo of ‘Little House on the Hill’. He emailed it to Nelson, and he responded practically right away saying that he loved it.
“He was like, ‘Let’s record it!’”
Just a couple of weeks later, the two met to record the actual track – and the result can be seen in the video, which has been seen over a million times on both YouTube and Facebook. Even though Lyndel herself and Nelson haven’t actually met in person yet, the musician has invited her to go on his next tour with him.
“Willie is a bigger fan of my mom’s than she is of him,” Buddy told Today.
Buddy has also shown him a couple of great videos of himself and his mom performing music together, while he plays the guitar, Lyndel is completely in her element playing her trusty harmonica.
What an absolutely beloved, heartwarming and adorable moment! Be sure to see Lyndel’s reaction in the video below.
