Christmas music can be broken into a few distinct categories.

We don’t have to go into all of them today, but one song is kind of strange in the world of Christmas music – We Three Kings.

Its narrative fits within Christmas time (it’s about baby Jesus), but it just sounds weird to play around the house!

Nobody really knows the lyrics and it seems only fitting that professionals take care of performing it.

The way the words are on a timing that isn’t easy to sing allows us to appreciate it, but usually stops us from singing it ourselves!

Thankfully, YouTube has plenty of amazing versions of the song we can watch as Christmas gets closer.

GENTRI is a musical trio that sings a special genre of songs they classify as “Cinematic pop”.

“GENTRI, which is short for “The Gentlemen Trio” was established in June 2014 and is comprised of three dynamic tenors: Brad Robins, Casey Elliott and Bradley Quinn Lever. Pioneering a signature sound they call “Cinematic Pop,” the music of GENTRI is transfused with lush, epic orchestrations and rich, dynamic three-part harmonies” – GENTRI Music

They recently released a version of We Three Kings and it’s TOTALLY worth a listen.

It premiered on YouTube and has the three singers (obviously) alongside a full band. It does the song justice, that’s for sure!

As the video starts, you get thrown into that strange vibe the song creates. It’s not quite Christmasy, but it’s fun to listen to!

It’s almost like Die Hard movies.

They are considered Christmas movies, but they really aren’t, right?

Regardless, GENTRI’s version has lots to love. Their harmonies are soaring and great do vocal runs on.

The band backing them up is great and creates a swinging feeling to the song.

The song isn’t gentle or sweet, it has a swing to it with some serious power.

The band and vocals match up in a way that really empowers the strengths of the song without attempting to downplay them.

Finishing the song up, they get to the best part.

Around the 2:20 minute mark in the video, they kick into a different gear.

The band gets louder and the three singers all come together for a solid moment of harmony.

After that moment, there are a few other big moments that are totally worth waiting for.

The piano player walks them down and they finish the song with a smile.

The dissonant style of the song is complemented with a final piano walk down and a quick ending.

As the lights go out and the music fades, you can see on the singers’ faces they are happy they were able to pull off such a tough song!

Not everyone has the skill to make We Three Kings sound good, but these three did it wonderfully!

They just released it a few days ago and it already has over 11k views.
