What do you think is the saddest song in the world?

For some, it might a song that reminds them of heartbreak and grief. Others may say it’s “Tears in Heaven,” or “Hurt,” from Nine Inch Nails.

While we can stay here and argue about the song that makes the most people cry, a violinist plays a song she considers an answer to that question.

Karolina Protsenko is a well-known violinist.

In a video she posted recently, she was once again in the midst of the crowd and was surrounded by curious bystanders.

Protensko bowed in gratitude when people began leaving some bills at her feet. They don’t know that it is one of the best street shows they’ll ever see.

Her supporting audio played, much to the excitement of the crowd.

Then, she played the first melancholic notes of Volvere, a song performed by Diego Vergauer. The song is a heartbreaking ballad that tells a story of loss and being left behind.

It was a song that Protensko enjoyed playing. You can hear her perfectly timed and sustained notes as she gives life to what she considers the saddest song in the world.

Protensko, the 15-year-old violinist, is originally from Ukraine.

She was born to a musically talented family so it comes as no surprise that she became a violinist when she grew up. Both her parents both played the piano and guitar.

Her family moved to the United States when she was six. Then, she started training in classical music. She started performing on the streets in 2017.

People were impressed by her rendition.

“I’ve watched this young woman now grow both musically and in age on YouTube,” said one of her subscribers. “It’s amazing how much better she’s become.”

“In English, the song is called “I Will Come Back” and if you listen to it in Spanish, while reading the lyrics, it is indeed a sad, but beautiful song,” explained another. “Karolina has captured the emotion in it perfectly with her violin. Outstanding work.”
