School plays and talent shows are usually so much fun for everyone involved: for the kids who’ve been preparing for weeks, for the proud parents and for amazed teachers.

That’s a nice way for talent to emerge, and it helps to make some of the greatest memories. Recording those performances is a must, and then the tape has a special place in a family archive.

As the clip begins, there’s a school stage with a little boy holding the guitar and his friend behind the drums.

From what we’ve found out, the boys’ names are Mike and Weston, and they’ve been friends for a long time. They’re bonded by their passion for Metallica, and they wanted to share it with the whole crowd through a performance.

The two boys put on an amazing show, and Mike’s mom felt so proud!

She made a YouTube account where she puts up short videos of her child’s playing progress.

It’s an interesting channel, and we quickly picked up the fact that Mike and Weston are no strangers to competing. Their first jam was in 2007 at an 8th grade talent show, where they also played some kind of Metallica medley. Here you can see them owning “Master of Puppets” effortlessly!

“Master of Puppets” is Metallica’s famous song from their 1986 third studio album by the same name.

Not only did these young musicians play it like little professionals, but they made the audience fall in love with the sound of heavy metal music blasting all over the school. Mike is excellent on the guitar, and it’s obvious that he’s been practicing a lot. Weston is hitting the drums like there’s no tomorrow, and it’s easy to feel their passion right through the screen!

These guys deserve some great equipment and a place where they can rock on as much as they desire.

After all, they won first place. It’s an energetic, well-rehearsed, catchy show that surely deserved to be rewarded. In the same year, a little bit after the school’s talent show, Mike’s mom posted another video of him playing “Nothing Else Matters.” The progress is visible, and his mom wrote that he’s been having so much fun with the Peavey guitar she bought for him.

What an excellent example of a parent’s support!

Mike’s mom has been nothing but supportive of his journey of discovering and enjoying the music he loves.

It’s a great lesson for all of us to simply let the children make the best of what they love. The last published video was from the local Arizona Talent Showcase in 2009. Mike and Weston formed a band with their friend Matt. A bassist made the band complete, and they decided to perform the song they’ve written especially for the competition. Nice work, guys!

They’re now involved in different things, and music remained a hobby.

Despite their enormous talent, the guys decided to take their time for educational purposes and they didn’t pursue a music career.

We support any decision as long as they’re happy. If anything, it doesn’t really matter if you play music for fun or for a living, the only thing that matters is that you’re enjoying yourself while doing so! Almost two million YouTube viewers witnessed just how much fun Mike and Watson were having, and the huge applause at the end says it all. We would love to see them re-unite sometime—maybe they’re still just as good as they were back then?
