Sultana grew up in Melbourne and got their first guitar as a gift from her grandfather when they were three years old.

They started playing right away and later went on to perform on the streets. Sultana’s humble beginnings were through busking, and their self-taught roots explain a lot about their unique style. To date, Sultana has mastered over 12 instruments.

Sultana is a powerhouse!

Sultana has an interesting story from her younger days.

She began playing open mic nights with a fake ID and busking all over the streets of Melbourne. The girl was courageous, we have to admit. We suppose that’s what it means to reach out for your dreams. Good for you, Tash!

Each of her songs consists of layers and layers of music.

The current began as a non-commercial, member-supported radio station based in Minneapolis.

It has since grown into a far-reaching community with members and listeners from all around the world. Some of the best authentic new music can be heard on The Current, and Sultana definitely belongs there as well!

Surrounded with several instruments, Sultana can be seen in the middle of the studio standing barefoot on a colorful carpet, holding a guitar—but that’s not all.

This is an impressively choreographed performance.

Sultana uses numerous loops to lay down guitar tracks. It starts with a basic chord progression which then evolves into a show with lots of ornamentation followed by a bassline. They have many different ways to switch in vocals, and that’s when their talent becomes most obvious. The song goes deep into the mind, and even deeper into the soul.

The solo at the end is extraordinary!

It’s clear that Sultana brings a lot to the table.

But when that guitar solo starts at the end, we were left speechless. It’s definitely an amazing performance!

Early in 2020, Sultana transitioned to a live band format and is no longer performing solo.

The band released their first single “Pretty Lady” on April 9th, 2020. Meanwhile, Sultana’s most successful single “Jungle” was voted third place in The Triple J Hottest 100 contest in 2016. Their world tour in 2017 was even completely sold-out!

Sultana revealed that they fell into a drug-induced psychosis at the age of 17.

After a couple of months in therapy, Sultana managed to recover and found solace in music. Needless to say, that decision paid off! Sultana’s accolades to date now include more than a billion combined streams and an ARIA Award for Best Blues and Roots Album of the Year for their album Flow State.
