The West family seems to have dancing in their DNA. Sam’s journey with the Shag dance began when he was just nine.

Over the years, he’s clinched numerous awards and titles, including being crowned the Overall Champion of the NSDC multiple times.

One of his memorable wins was in 1995, dancing alongside his sister, Sarah.

He’s also won titles with his wife, Lisa.

Together, Sam and Lisa have been ambassadors of the Shag dance, teaching and sharing their love for it across the U.S. and even internationally.

Given this backdrop, it’s hardly surprising that Sydney, too, has emerged as a champion in the Shag style.

In fact, she and her father bagged the first-place title in the Professional Division at the NSDC.

Their performance to “Stand By Me” offers a close-up view of their incredible talent.

As Eric Marienthal’s jazz rendition fills the air, Sam and Sydney’s dance becomes a mesmerizing display of skill and synchrony.

Their movements are fluid and graceful, captivating viewers with every spin and step.

A bit of background on the NSDC: it’s been a staple since 1984, held annually in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

As per its official website, the NSDC is the “longest continuously running” Shag competition in America, with 2020 marking its 37th contest.

And here’s a fun fact: Shag is the official state dance of South Carolina!
