Swing and shag-dancing leaves a lot of room for improv, making it a favorite for many dancers in the United States. Being a couple dance makes it even more popular, as many couples will flock to it as a fun activity to do together.
We’ve witnessed a lot of great swing dancers in the years, and it looks like they keep on coming.
Rock That Swing Ball 2023 brought in a lot of great dancers, and they were kind enough to upload a full video of their performances.
Couple number one came here to give us a show. Light on their feet and readier than ever, they’re already giving the audience a lot to love.
Their footwork is great, and they’ll have to keep it great so the other couples have some traction to work with when it’s their turn.
And the other couples’ turns do come around, with couple number 2 showing up in matching maroon colors.
They kick it old-school with a little waving to the audience, and a lot of quick-twisting action. Really makes you feel like you’ve stepped back to the 1920’s when swing and shag was in its infancy.
That’s the great thing about dance. It can make new memories, but take you back to old ones at the same time.
Here comes couple number three, with a distinct move from the others.
They do large, half-circle motions with their feet during a step.
It’s a pretty great way to spice up a simple routine,
With a quick song change, couple number four takes their turn and makes good use of it.
Twirling seems to be their go-to move. It adds a nice flare to a good old swing and gets them much-deserved points from the audience.
Couple number five follows with some flare of their own.
Twirling’s already been done, so this couple goes for a double-shuffle move that takes some coordination and a bit of stamina.
The idea was to give the audience something a bit different, and judging from the cheers getting louder, I’d say it had the desired effect.
Their matching navy blue outfits are a nice touch as well.
Couple number six has their turn, also bringing matching clothes.
While they have the floor, they go to town on it with footwork that would make most of us clap.
There’s not a single missed step, and every shuffle and kick is clean as a whistle.
And that’s not the end either.
Couple number seven takes the floor next, and throws in a little finger wiggle as a throwback to classic swing dances.
After all seven individual performances, the event has all the couples join together for a finale. The audience has been generous and kind the whole night, so they may as well do it as a thank you.
The swinging send-off becomes the highlight of the evening, and a wonderful night for all the participants to look back on as a fun memory.
It’s not every night you get to do something like this.
