What’s the easiest way to get an A on your class assignment? Serenade your teacher, of course!

And that’s exactly what one young high school lad did when he took to the stage and sang a personalized version of The Beatles’ “Hey Jude” to his AP History teacher. For the class’ assessment, the students had been asked to perform as a celebrity from a certain decade, and Mitchell Weeks bravely took on the role of one of the biggest legends of all time, Paul McCartney.

When he first takes his seat at his piano, we have to admit, we were skeptical.

At first he seems nervous, especially when his microphone won’t stay in place. But with the help of his fellow pupils, he gets it set up and greets the crowd with a “hello.” The crowd gives a cheer—and the performance can begin!

Initially, the crowd isn’t sure what to expect from Weeks.

But then he starts to play, and it’s clear he’s got some serious instrumental skills. Weeks commences with a piano rendition of “Let It Be.” He belts out the lyrics like a pro, and everyone is doubly impressed—a talented pianist and singer! We assume that his performance will continue to the end in this fashion, but we’re soon proven wrong.

Mid-way through “Let It Be,” Weeks stops singing and plays his piano lightly in the background while a student places a swivel chair on stage.

He then calls for his teacher, Miss Dunham, and requests for her to join him on the stage. There are murmurs of confusion and giggles from the crowd as he continues, “I’d like to serenade you.” Now that must have taken some bravery! At this point, we’re thinking Weeks must really want to achieve top grades for the assignment.

After some initial hesitance, Miss Dunham gets up and takes a seat on the swivel chair, looking unusually bashful for a teacher! Weeks says, “You’re going to like this,” and the next thing we know, he’s launched into his very own rendition of “Hey Jude.”

It’s a version we’ve never heard before, because Weeks has changed all the lyrics!

He sings directly to his teacher, reassuring her that school is almost over and her voice can get better. The audience is in hysterics as he sings about his teacher’s tendency to “go on forever and ever about stuff.” Miss Dunham takes it in stride, and before long, she’s wiping the tears away as the emotions hit. Jokes aside, Weeks shows his clear appreciation for his teacher, singing, “Hey, Dunham, you rock,” and, “I’ve never met someone quite like yourself.”

At the end of the song, Weeks stands up and offers Miss Dunham a long hug while the audience applauds his performance. We all know what it’s like to be taught by a really outstanding teacher, and Miss Dunham was clearly something special!

Weeks certainly did a good job of letting her know that she’d made a big impact in his life.

And the best news? Weeks confirmed on his YouTube video that he did indeed get an A for his performance! It would have been almost impossible to grade him any lower, given the circumstances.

Congratulations to Weeks for pulling off such an epic performance! Check it out for yourself in the video below.
