Love him or not, Michael Jackson has had a profound impact on the pop music genre. In fact, given that many generations after his biggest hits were released, talented young performers are still emulating his style, be it in terms of his vocals or dancing. Just think of a red leather jacket and BOOM, you’re thinking about Thriller. Just think of one shiny glove and BOOM, you can practically see him kicking his legs on stage. Just think of the term “moonwalk” and it’s probably not Buzz Aldrin that springs to mind first.
Just think of a the classic white hat, with blue satin shirt and white suit and BOOM- We’re thinking of Smooth Criminal, his 1987 smash hit.
But as I said, his ultimate contribution, is inspiring young performers to imitate him.
And this I present to you; Joseph Borgia absolutely dominating the Gulf Middle School Talent Show with his spot-on Michael Jackson dance routine. He’s got the hat. He’s got the shirt, tie and suit. He EVEN has the white finger tape that MJ wears in the official Smooth Criminal music video. Now that, is dedication.
You don’t even have to be an MJ fan to recognize the iconic dance style.
Although it is abundantly clear that Joe is one such fan. Watching Joe dancing is looking at several hours of meticulous choreography and rehearsal. He’s got all of MJ’s tricks and pulls them off seemingly effortlessly. The same way that Jackson could flick his heels out and quick-step without seeming to even try, Joe can do too.
And speaking of footwork…
…It seems to be somewhat of a specialty for our MJ two-point-oh. His feet move lightning-fast, blink and you’ll miss a string of moves! Joe shifts his weight in that same almost supernatural-looking way that Michael Jackson was known for, expertly moving his entire body with incredible precision and speed.
From the quick chest pumps, to the hat tilting, it’s an uncanny impersonation at its finest.
A trademark of ol’ MJ is his little hand flick, which you best believe our friend Joseph has mastered. This distinctive style is instantly recognizable, which of course means that so also is a phony. Anyone watching this dance routine however would agree that Joe is no phony, but the real deal.
If you don’t do the moonwalk, are you even doing a Michael Jackson dance?
Absolutely not. So Joe Borgia of course not only attempts it, but gives the King of Pop himself a run for his money. The crowd go absolutely mad when he does his perfect moonwalk across the stage (or…gym floor).
Perhaps one of Jackson’s most memorable stances is no big deal for Borgia.
The toe stance. We know it well. Looking at Borgia doing his Jackson toe stance, you can practically see his silhouette on the cover of the This Is It program. Once again, the audience who have already been so delighted by Joseph’s incredible skill, are rapturous with appreciation.
This performance was not for a competition, but rather a collaborative talent show, but you can be sure that if it was competitive, Joe would be moonwalking away with first prize.
