Many of today’s YouTube stars rely on a lot of audio/video editing to perfect the content they choose to share with the world. Everything is new, and everyone is trying to be the next big thing.
But this pair have taken it back a notch, and it’s the most beautiful, authentic thing you’ll hear all day.
Josh Turner is a popular young guitarist based on Brooklyn, New York. His YouTube channel has more than 450,000 subscribers and he has covered every artist you can imagine from Peggy Lee to Anderson .Paak.
He was going on tour through the states down to Nashville, and thought it wold be the perfect time to contact a singer who he knew and admired on YouTube.
He reached out to the talented Allison Young to suggest working together on a duet.
Allison’s channel has 30,000 subscribers and she covers popular songs in her own retro style.
She’s young, but you can tell through the style of her music that she has an old soul.
“She said yes, and suggested we ought to do something as Nashville as it comes – a Willie Nelson tune popularized by Patsy Cline.” – Josh
Their set up in simple. They’re sitting on a couch in someone’s living room, with just a microphone and an acoustic guitar. No bells and whistles to be seen.
It’s lovely to see a young duo like these two appreciating an old classic like this one!
It helps a younger audience get to know some of the greatest music from generations passed, with a relatable spin on it.
Her mesmerizing voice pairs perfectly with Josh’s smooth guitar skills.
They open up the number by whistling in sync before letting Allison show off her hypnotic vocals solo.
She sounds straight out of the 1950s, and her voice sounds so steady for someone who’s in her early twenties.
Even her clothing style looks kind of retro!
The cover they’ve chosen is so melodic that you can’t help but sway side to side along with the two of them. Even if you’re not familiar with the original, this is worth a listen.
Allison sings her way through most of the song on her own, but then unexpectedly, Josh chimes in with some vocals for the final chorus.
Is it even possible for them to sound even better together? Their voices intertwine so beautifully.
They whistle the tune again until Josh strums his final chord, and then have a giggle together, saying “I think that was the one”.
I guess they’ve done a couple takes!
For anyone who can whistle, just try to manage the little tune to this song. It’s harder than it looks!
You can tell they’re both proud of the final product.
Josh and Allison’s online performance has melted the hearts of many viewers, some even suggesting the pair do an entire album together.
If it happens, I would like to be first to know, please!
And even though there’s no news of an album at this time, they’ve recorded a few more duets together. The two young artists have a strong chemistry together, and bright futures ahead.
I’m sure this won’t be the last we hear from Josh Turner and Allison Young.
