But for 12-year-old Ansley Burns from South Carolina, a rare opportunity glimmered.
She stood on the edge of losing her chance to dazzle in the latest season of America’s Got Talent.
Ansley had always nurtured the dream of stepping onto the America’s Got Talent stage.
With the goal of becoming a celebrated singer, she bravely stepped into the spotlight of one of the world’s grandest stages.

Singing has been Ansley’s passion since she was very young.

When the moment arrived for her to perform on AGT, it was the realization of a lifelong dream.
Yet, when Simon Cowell heard her song choice, Aretha Franklin’s “Think,” he was visibly surprised.
“You’re going to do Aretha? At 12? Okay, you sure?” he asked.
As Ansley began to sing, she put her whole heart into the performance, aiming to make an unforgettable impact.
But unexpectedly, Simon signaled her to stop—a sign that usually meant bad news.

“Ansley, Ansley, sorry. I don’t think this backing track was working for you. I think it was a horrible, horrible backing track, so I don’t think we can judge you properly on this, I really don’t. We really like you, but that was terrible,” he said, suggesting she sing acapella instead.
Ansley, though shocked, agreed to it.
