Some songs evoke a nostalgic moment in us all. No matter the time or place, certain notes and lyrics pull us from our moments and push us back into memories and thoughts of times past.
Billy Joel has given us one of those songs with ‘Piano Man.’
A story that speaks of humanity, love, and life, the opening notes are recognizable enough that we lift an eyebrow and look around to see if anyone else knows what song is about to play.
Even though the song was written before these two were born, they have a blast singing it together.

“Busking” is the art of performing music on the street. For teen Allie Sherlock, it’s her job! Allie has been singing for years and has one of those voices that makes people jealous. As a kid, she even went on Ellen for a cover of an Ed Sheeran song she performed!
With over 3.73 million subscribers on YouTube, people love her voice.
In this video, however, Allie isn’t the main singer! She has a friend join her in the performance, named Cuan Durkin. They each have a part to play in the song, but Cuan sings most of the lyrics.
Like always, the piano notes start the song, and you think in your head involuntarily, “Oh, its Piano Man”!
Cuan is wearing a black turtleneck (you gotta keep that throat warm!) when he starts to sing. The lyrics are timeless, and Cuan has a voice to match. Despite his obviously young age, he has a clear and strong voice that rings out across the courtyard the two are performing in.
Allie wants to hop in, but she doesn’t know the song!
There are a few times that Cuan tries to share the mic for Allie to hop on, but she looks down at her phone and nods her head – she doesn’t know the lyrics! It’s easy to forget that the song was written in 1973, and Allie is only 15-years-old!
When she finally does get the lyrics down, it’s downright amazing.
Allie has a voice that is clear and whispy when she hits the high notes. When she is in her lower range, it’s like caramel. Smooth, silky, and sweet. The la, di-di, da’s ring out, and Cuan takes back the mic.
Cuan brings stability and familiarity to the song that it needs.
After a few more lines, Cuan lets Javier “take it away”! Javier is their keyboardist and is in the signature glasses and coat. He looks the part and plays it even better! You can tell that he is an incredible musician, just from the way he plays.
As the group comes to the end of the song, they are greeted with applause from the audience!
These two are great examples that age doesn’t have to be a factor when it comes to talent! By the sound of the applause that they get, people love them. What’s not to love? They are funny, talented, and put on a great show! Make sure you check out Allie’s channel below!
