Can you remember what you were doing at 12 years old?
Most of us were trudging through middle school struggles, worried about the end of year dance and dreading the teacher calling you to go to the board and solve a math problem.
For this preteen, though, he had much bigger things to think about. He set his sights to the big stage!
Shaheen Jafargholi has always loved to sing. He sings songs at all of his family functions and everyone in his family always loves it. There’s no doubt that this young man is a huge talent.
His biggest fan, though, is his single mom. The way she watches so hopefully when he steps onto the stage is so full of love.
Shaheen has quite a lot of confidence for someone his age, and he’s so well-spoken. There’s no doubt that he was meant to be on the stage. Can you imagine getting up in front of that many people when you were his age?
When he tells the judges what song he’s going to sing, you can see that there’s already a glimmer of doubt in Simon’s face.
Once Shaheen starts to sing, the crowd is already impressed, and Mom is beaming with confidence from the sidelines.
Simon, however, isn’t feeling it. The song that Shaheen loves to sing for his grandfather so much isn’t cutting it for him. He asks him to stop.
The most devastated of all is Shaheen’s mother, whose head falls right into her hands.
This wasn’t his last chance, though. Like many times before, Simon asks if this contestant has any other songs to sing for them since the Amy Winehouse one was “all wrong.”
With a deep breath and a new song in his heart, young Shaheen gets ready to give the judges everything he’s got.
Michael Jackson’s “Who’s Lovin’ You” is sure to wow the judges.
With the first note, it’s already 100 times better. You could tell that he was good before, but now? Now you know that he’s got a star inside him waiting to be introduced to the world.
It’s so sweet how Mom is shaking with adrenaline and nerves backstage. She’s so proud to see her son accomplishing so much at a young age.
By the end of the audition, all three of the judges are on their feet in awe.
Shaheen was actually no stranger to the stage before this audition – he’d done some theater work and had even had minor TV and film appearances.
After Got Talent, he went on to sing on many more big stages, including The Oprah Winfrey Show and at Michael Jackson’s televised memorial service. The similarity between their voices is uncanny, it’s no wonder he was asked to show off those similarities over and over again.
What do you think of this incredible performance that kicked it all off? Does Shaheen remind you of a certain someone? His voice is so pure yet powerful.
