It’s always fun to hear talented musicians playing great tunes.
And this video is a great example of that. The video begins with an elderly man sitting in front of a piano in a crowded train station.
A young boy leans on the piano, ready to hear the performance as the rest of the people pass by, unaware of the music that’s going to bring them together and put smiles on their faces.
After that, he starts playing and captures the crowd’s attention, little by little.
After that, a professional piano player approaches and they start playing together.
As they play together, you can almost feel him getting rejuvenated through the sound of music.
We all know the power of music, but seeing it like this reminds us how important it is to stop for a while and enjoy the moment.
As it turns out, this second pianist is Brendan Kavanagh, a contemporary British pianist and piano teacher.
He behaves modestly and acts as though he just came to play piano for a little while. You wouldn’t suspect that he is the famous “Dr. K,” unless you know him and his work really well.
They blend together and their hands start dancing over the piano keys. Before long, the audience is really feeling the performance and they start dancing and taking photos.
Brendan wants the spotlight to be on this older man and the result is so moving!
When they’re playing together, his age doesn’t mean a thing— he’s still so talented and the crowd loves him!
The two of them play different compositions while chatting in between.
Before long, the elderly man says that he’s Irish. They don’t even know each other’s names, but the connection between them is amazing. They act like two kids on a playground!
When they finish playing, the elderly man quietly walks away.
His exit was humble, and he waved at everyone in the crowd before he went. No one even knew his name, and we can only guess that he was an accomplished piano player who is now retired.
After the elderly man left, Kavanaugh jokes for a while about them “practicing” that piece for months.
Still, the truth is that these two men were improvising the whole performance and they still synced up perfectly. It is almost unbelievable that they never played together before!
As it turns out, this video is part of an amazing idea called #Platform88.
During the video, we can see #Platform88 written on the piano.
The project is a partnership between Yamaha and Transport for London, and the name comes from the fact that a piano has 88 keys.
#Platform88 aims to bring music to public places through spontaneous performances just like this one.
These pianos are located at underground stations and anyone can just stop, play for a while and entertain people.
Kavanagh does these kinds of performances frequently, and he shares them all on his YouTube channel. They’re all so fun to watch, and this video is no exception.
