Traditional folk dances are very common and popular in Russia, but usually in the daytime and always in traditional dresses. This show, however, has a different look.
At first glance this looks like something out of the apocalyptic Hulu show The Handmaids Tale, but after the camera zooms in you realize these women are dressed in traditional clothing – with a twist.
These women are all wearing beautiful dresses lit up like stars in the night sky.
There’s nothing too fancy about the dresses, other than they put strands of lights throughout the sleeves and bottoms. It makes for a stunning visual in the dark.
Even their gorgeous headpieces are glowing.
What is also captivating about the video is the setting.
The aerial zooms of the performance show an old church in the country giving the whole video an almost eerie feeling. The church that they are performing in front of is the Church of All Saints in Omsk, Russia. Add in the lights and it’s visually stunning.
The song also helps set the tone of the video.
It’s a traditional Russian folk song with a modern spin. It has deeper female voices and is also in a minor key making it sound more ominous. The song matches the setting perfectly and makes for a great background to the visuals.
The dance itself is simple, yet calculated. It almost appears as if they’re floating.
The women are obviously professionals and have done this beautiful dance many times.

Since being posted, the video has racked up thousands of views. It has also gained thousands of comments and compliments from users all over the world praising the dancers for their performance.

Traditional Russian dances are very common and there are several different kinds.
Karelian dance, Komi dance, Ingush dance are just a few popular ones. The popularity of each dance depends on each region and where it originated.
It’s not clear what type of Russian dance these women are performing. However, based on their traditional look (minus the LED lights) it’s definitely a folk dance.
