When you think about funny people like Rhea Perlman and Danny DeVito, you’d assume that two such hilarious people would have a blissfully happy marriage.

And they did. So, fans were quite shocked when they announced their separation in 2017. While the couple isn’t “officially together” they also aren’t “officially divorced.”

Perlman and DeVito were marred in 1982. Honey Celebrity reports that the two met in 1971 after Perlman saw DeVito perform in a stage production of “Shrinking Bride.”

DeVito co-starred in the movie with one of Perlman’s friends and they decided to hang out and get a bite after the show.

“I really dug her,” DeVito told “Live with Regis and Kathie Lee” in 1996.

“We were instant,” Perlman added.

The couple went on to act together on the sitcom “Taxi” where they played each other’s love interest.

They also co-starred in the 1996 movie “Matilda” based on the book by Roald Dahl.

The family also has three children: Lucy, 39, Grace, 37, and Jack, 34.

“‘Cheers’ might have been everything in the beginning of my career, but family is everything, everything,” Perlman, a four-time Emmy winner, says. “If my relationships with my children were strained, I would be beside myself.”

Perlman and DeVito announced their separation in 2012, but ended up getting together only to separate again in 2017.

Despite their separation, they still spend a lot of time together.

“We’re still separated, but we see each other often, and we’re still a family,” Perlman told People.

“We can do things together, we can do things separately. I’m really, really glad that Danny and I were able to navigate some rough days to be able to have this different kind of relationship. I think it’s pretty rare, but we agree on so many things that it makes sense.”

Perlman says that their separation “probably worked out for the best,” though sometimes she misses having a full-time man.

“Sometimes I wish we were still together because those were the glory days, but these are other kinds of glory days,” she said.

These days Perlman is still taking on acting roles.

She recently appeared in the movie “Marvelous and the Black Hole,” and will appear in the live-action “Barbie” movie.

“Kate [Tsang] who’s the writer and director had never directed a feature before. And she couldn’t have been more prepared every day,” Perlman said.

“And the producer Carolyn Mao, she’s amazing. And the cinematographer was a woman. It was a really great feeling. There’s always more parts for men, but I think that everybody’s aware of trying to write for women and cast women. I feel very optimistic about it.”

Perlman also hopes to do more traveling.

“I really want to go so many places,” Perlman says.. “I’ve never been to Japan. I’ve never been to so many parts of South America. I’ve never been to Australia, believe it or not. So that’s one thing that I’m really looking forward to. I like being in nice places.”
