While people have interpreted the songs meaning and themes differently, most fans and listeners alike can agree that it was an anthem for hope and assurance.

The meaning and origins of the song were finally laid to rest when McCartney joined a show.

An intimate car ride

The member of The Beatles joined late-night show host James Corden in one of his most famous segments – The Carpool Karaoke.

“Your music is so full of positivity, and joy, and a message of love and togetherness.” Corden said in the segment. “I feel like it’s more relevant now today than it’s maybe ever been.”

Paul told him about a dream.

“I had a dream in the ’60s where my mom who died came to me in the dream.” McCartney said, “And was reassuring me saying, ‘It’s going to be okay. Just let it be.’”

The singer-songwriter said that he felt a great wave of relief after the encounter and said that “It’s going to be great.”

He was right about that.

“She gave me the positive words.” He continued. “That’s what she said ‘Let it be.’ It was kind of good, you know? So I wrote the song ‘Let it Be’. It was full of positivity.”

The song resonated.

It hit home with millions of people, which helped it remain popular until now.

Corden and McCartney then sang the song together. Now that Corden knew the meaning of the song, he couldn’t help but be overwhelmed with emotion by the end of the song.

James has his own memories of the song.

He said that his grandfather and father sat him down one day and said that they were going to let him listen to one of the greatest songs ever – ‘Let It Be’.

McCartney and Corden then traveled to an apartment where the singer used to live.

He showed his humble beginnings. He pointed out the spots where his father used to do chores or where he watched TV.

Not far from the spot sat a drum set. McCartney said that it was where he and John Lennon would come together and write their songs.

Only two Beatles left

McCartney is one of the only surviving members of their band together with Ringo Starr.

The group came together after McCartney met Lennon. After the band signed with EMI, their popularity snowballed into what was known as “The Beatlemania”.
