In high school, we usually view our teachers and principles as squares – always trying to ruin the fun! Now that we are older, we realize that most of the time, they were just trying to protect us as best as they knew how. Even more, we see them in a more human light!
A hilarious example of this happened a few days ago in Sunrise, Florida.
At a local high school in Florida, one principal decided she wanted to show the student body she still had what it takes to be a dancing cheerleader! The event was captured on video and since it was released has been skyrocketing in views.
The principal, Marie Hautigan, showed up to her school’s homecoming football game decked out in gold sequins!
Hautigan didn’t just dress the part either, she showed up to dance! Normally, it would be shocking to see your principal show up dressed in sparkling clothing, but to have her dance in front of the whole school? That’s something else entirely!
Running out, we can see she is about to let loose with some dance moves!
Waving her arms in the air, she gets into position and gets ready to rock. The students have no idea what is about to happen! Getting in line, she starts hitting the moves in time with the other cheerleaders – she’s clearly been practicing!
As the cheerleaders wave their arms and flow in their routine, it’s clear that she knows her stuff!
Hautigan, in a later interview, said:
“Last year we didn’t have a homecoming so this year we wanted it to be big and exciting. I will never be as good as them, but I can at least go out there and give it my best effort.”
And boy, did she do that! After going through the essentials of the routine, she decided to go for broke and hit one final move.
In the last moments of the routine, Mrs. Hautigan doesn’t hold back one smidge!
She hits a split with the rest of the cheerleaders! While we don’t know how old she is, we know that she went out on a limb for the splits and it totally paid off! When she came hit it, the entire crowd erupted in cheers with how proud of their principal they were!
While it was fun, she also hopes the video will help raise money for the school’s band uniforms.
“She hopes the viral video will lead to donations for the marching band because she says they really need new uniforms.”
Well, the video only came out a day ago and it’s already topped 300k views! It’s safe to say that her idea to dance with the cheerleaders for homecoming likely paid off more than she ever expected.
