Congratulations are in order!

A new member of the royal family has finally arrived. Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton have welcomed their third child together today, on April 23, 2018.

It was earlier reported by BBC and CNN that the Duchess of Cambridge was in labor (on a Monday of all days) and it seems her hard work in the hospital has paid off. There is a new little royal bundle.

Prince William and Kate Middleton’s third child is a baby boy! No word on the name yet, but Prince George and Princess Charlotte have excellent royal names, so there is no doubt their baby brother won’t have a great name as well.

Kensington Palace first tweeted the news about Kate’s labor:

“Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge was admitted to St. Mary’s Hospital, Paddington, London earlier this morning in the early stages of labour.

The Duchess travelled by car from Kensington Palace to the Lindo Wing at St. Mary’s Hospital with The Duke of Cambridge.”

The royal Twitter account continued to keep the world up-to-date on the proceedings, announcing that the media was gathered outside of the hospital, waiting for updates on the royal baby.

The entire royal family was alerted to the news (though it seems none of them traveled to the hospital just yet). The royal family seems to be a more private form of celebrators when it comes to good news.

Finally, the Twitter update we were all waiting for came:

“Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge was safely delivered of a son at 1101hrs.

The baby weighs 8lbs 7oz.

The Duke of Cambridge was present for the birth.

Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well.”

Thank goodness the Duchess is feeling alright, as she suffered from hyperemesis gravidarum, a form of terrible morning sickness, throughout her pregnancy.

For those of you unsure of the military time, that is 11:01 AM!

The royal couple first met in 2001 while studying at the University of St. Andrews, though they did not begin dating until 2003.

Prince William popped the question in the fall of 2010, while they were on a holiday in Kenya. Their wedding was on April 29, 2011, and it was broadcast around the globe. Over 36 million people tuned in to watch the ceremony live.

Will and Kate welcomed their first child, Prince George Alexander Louis, on July 22, 2013. The young prince is now the third in line to the British throne, after his father and grandfather. George jumped ahead of his own uncle, Prince Harry of Wales, in line!

Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana was born May 2, 2015. She was named after her mother and great-grandmother, two of the most famous women in British history over the last 60 years – no pressure for a young princess!

2018 is shaping up to be a wonderful year for the royal family! Hopefully, Prince William and Kate are able to get in a bit of sleep and rest before Prince Harry’s big day.

Prince Harry is set to marry his fiance, Meghan Markle, on May 19, 2018. Prince William is set to act as his brother’s best man at the wedding, so it truly is an eventful year for the Duke of Cambridge!
