Stevie Wonder’s “I just called to say I love you” remains one of his most popular songs of all time. It was a major international hit, remaining Wonder’s best-selling single to date. The song has topped a record 19 charts.
It is signature Stevie with sweet, romantic lyrics paired to catchy, feel-good melody that’s easy to listen to at home or on the road.
Plus, it’s Stevie Wonder singing.
The song’s sentiments are straightforward. Just a guy calling his special someone to tell her how much he loves her. The lyrics list down a few holidays and seasons making it easy for listeners to follow and sing along to.
“No New Year’s Day to celebrate
No chocolate covered candy hearts to give away
No first of spring, no song to sing
In fact, here’s just another ordinary dayNo April rain, no flowers bloom
No wedding Saturday within the month of June
But what it is, is something true
Made up of these three words that I must say to you”
Used in the movie The Woman In Red, Kelly LeBrock is the woman Gene Wilder is mesmerized by. Stevie Wonder wrote most of the songs for the movie after Dionne Warwick, who was the “song coordinator” on the film, suggested and endorsed Stevie to the producers.

Wonder’s best-selling and arguably, most beloved hit now enjoys a resurgence in popularity thanks to Pentatonix.
Scott Hoying, Mitch Grassi, Kirstin Maldonado, Kevin Olusola, and Matt Sallee are the members of one of the best Acapella groups out there. They cover mostly pop songs but do venture into Christmas songs during the season.
Listen to their rendition of “I just called to say I love you” though. It’s only a day old or so since posting and it’s already gotten 174,039 views.
Each voice is distinct, plus the blending is impeccable!
“I’ve listened to the visualizer version so much already, but when each person is shown on screen, it just draws my attention to that member’s part, and I discover new bits of ear candy I didn’t notice before! Love it and love you guys <3”
Says a big fan.
And with Pentatonix, their music videos always feature a lot of smiling, a lot of camaraderie, and colors! Lots of colors.
With Acapella, it is easy to hear the harmonizing and the pure talent singers have. There are no musical instruments to distract you from the magic of their bleding. And these guys (and girl) are all equally gifted.
Admit it, it made you feel so much better.
Christmas colors add to the vibrancy of the video and a song that just has someone so thoughtfully calling to tell the other how much they are appreciated. Something we should all do on a regular basis.
They even add a little message for viewers at the end saying they’re going back on tour. If this is your first time hearing these guys, now is the time to get those tickets!
