Patrick Duffy made a name for himself playing Bobby Ewing on Dallas.
He also appeared in Charlie’s Angels and American Housewives and has been acting ever since.
But Patrick Duffy’s life boasts a lot of sadness.
His parents were murdered in 1986, for starters.
Then 37 years old, Duffy was shooting scenes for Dallas at the time when the murder occurred.
Two teenagers armed with a gun murdered his parents, Marie and Terence Duffy, in the Montana bar they owned.
In spite of the tragedy, Duffy kept his head up and coped with their loss thanks to his Buddhist faith.
“There was something about the eternity of life that had set deep inside me. As horrific as that was, I didn’t feel disconnected from them.”
The now 73-year-old actor has had a long career and also has someone who was there for most of it.
His late wife Carlyn Rosser.
Duffy married Rosser, then a ballerina, in 1974. She was 10 years his senior.
The pair were happy as could be and were married for over 40 years.
You don’t stay together that long unless your love is one of a kind.
But it seemed that the world wasn’t done throwing tragedies at Duffy.
After over 4 decades of marriage, Rosser died of cancer unexpectedly in 2017.
Still, Duffy considered himself a married man even after Rosser’s death. Perhaps his way of mentally dealing with the situation.
And like before, his Buddhist faith played a big role in confronting his grief.
He still had his sons and grandchildren whom he spent time with after Rosser’s passing.
Years later, Duffy would cross paths with another senior sitcom star: Linda Purl.
The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 made their paths cross. Duffy and Purl were in a group chat when they connected.

They clicked so well, and became so enamored with each other, that the group chat soon turned into a conversation just between the two of them.
I can imagine how awkward it must’ve been for the other people in it!
“I loaded up my car and drove 20 hours and ended up on her doorstep just to see if it was real. We haven’t been apart since,” Duffy said

The pair seem like they were meant for each other. It’s worth a smile or two when seniors find love again at their age.
Duffy recalls how much they bonded over cooking and dancing.
There’s nothing that can stir up a romantic evening quite like a good meal, right?

“When we got together, I can actually remember I arrived late in the afternoon and we had dinner and we cooked dinner in the kitchen,” he said
When it seemed like he might not find love again, love ended up finding him.
And when both of you know the steps to a dance, you know you’re meant to be together.

“It was a dance that we had never done together, but the choreography was known to both of us,” Duffy continued
