A beautiful rendition of the classic hit “Jolene” happened when Olivia Newton-John and Dolly Parton teamed up to create a memorable duet months before Newton-John passed away.
Dolly Parton is a living legend.
People worldwide have heard of her as a country music singer, guitarist, and actress.
She is known for her unique style of combining country and pop music styles.
She’s part of the Country Music Hall of Fame and is also a successful businesswoman and philanthropist.
Parton is also part-owner of Dollywood Parks and Resorts in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, near the Great Smoky Mountains, which some people have voted as the number one theme park in the U.S.
Parton had her first number-one song in 1973, and three more songs reached number-one on the charts in 1974, including her hit song, “Jolene.”
On the other hand, Olivia Newton-John is a British singer and actress who grew up in Australia before moving back to the UK.
Newton-John is a four-time Grammy Award winner and has been nominated 12 times.
While she was always known to be a great singer, she became a global star when she starred in the hit movie, “Grease” with John Travolta.
The classic movie came out in 1978 and was an immediate box office success.
It was the highest-grossing musical at the time. Newton-John and Travolta became inseparable with the name “Grease.”
The movie also produced hit songs, such as “Hopelessly Devoted to You” and “You’re the One That I Want,” sung by Newton-John.
Sadly, Newton-John passed away from breast cancer at the age of 73 in August 2022.
People around the world mourned the loss of such a talented and well-loved artist.
Months before she passed away, she collaborated with Parton on a special duet of “Jolene”, which is to be included in an album Newton-John was working on before she died.
This beautiful video showed legends Parton and Newton-John singing and recording “Jolene” separately, but the final product is them singing together.
Both Parton and Newton-John are beautiful in the video, singing vibrantly and with so much passion and enthusiasm.
Even if Newton-John is seated, you can till see how much effort she is putting into the song.
News reports shared that this was Newton-John’s last recording before she died.
Last year, Parton also talked about the special performance. “My last memory of Olivia was when I sang with her on my song, ‘Jolene’ which she recorded for an album not so very long ago. I cannot wait to hear that album and Olivia may you rest in peace. You left a spot that no one else will ever fill,” she shared with Hello! Magazine.
Although Newton-John passing away is truly sad and a great loss to the music industry, we are happy we have this last song and video to remember her.
We can’t think of a better collaboration than Parton and Newton-John on “Jolene” to end Newton-John’s musical legacy.
