Though there are plenty of different kinds of music out there, there’s something about ‘80s rock that remains so distinctive.
Now that the internet has equalized our access to music, plenty of people are going back in time to discover bands and artists they may never have heard before.
For young people, dipping back into classic rock can be just as fulfilling as listening to whatever’s on the radio. Though the soulful lyrics of old rock music are hard to beat even today, it’s also hard to beat the uniquely over-the-top vocalists of the ‘80s.
And some of those bands are getting their own revivals on YouTube.

There are plenty of artists that come to mind in the ‘80s rock genre. To name a few, there’s Bon Jovi, Guns N’ Roses, and Van Halen. Still, when it comes to artists that could bring the power ballads, few groups could ever rival Journey.
Although it’s easy to make fun of the group now for their extreme emotion and overblown delivery, the truth is that Steve Perry is one of the most consistently underrated rock vocalists of all time.
Fortunately, one older man on YouTube has found a way to pay him the perfect tribute.
The video in question comes from YouTube user TruthSurge, the moniker of an older man dedicated to doing rock covers at home.
The channel is relatively modest with only about 180,000 subscribers, though some of the videos have earned plenty of attention online. Many of the channel’s covers are dedicated to hard rock and metal bands, bands like Iron Maiden and AC/DC.
Still, one of the standout videos is a faithful (pardon the pun) cover of the classic Journey ballad, “Faithfully.” For those who don’t know, the song discusses the difficulties and aches of having a loved one back home while you’re on the road.
For his part, the man in the video is determined to the song’s emotion justice.
As the clip begins, the backing music starts playing and he takes a deep breath.
Though there’s a slight effect on the microphone, he starts belting his notes with so much power from the very beginning.
Although it’s just a home performance, there’s something about it that feels epic and anthemic right from the very beginning. As he sings the lyrics, all the words are imbued with deep emotion and meaning.
When he gets to the chorus, his voice soars and he howls with emotion—just like Steve Perry.
Still, this isn’t the only cover on the channel that has gotten some traction online.
Aside from this cover of Journey, the man also sings a pretty impressive cover of “Highway to Hell” by AC/DC.
As he explains in the video, he steps to the microphone without having practiced the song at all, and without any rehearsal. Still, in just one take, he absolutely nails it!
For lovers of rock music, this channel is definitely worth checking out.
Although there aren’t a ton of followers yet, there’s a good chance that this mystery rock-singing gentleman is bound to get some attention for his spirited covers.
