When you’re having a bad day, music has the ability to help make things a little brighter. Yet, there are certain songs out there that seem to boost people’s spirits to a higher level. Many would consider “You Raise Me Up” to be one of those songs.
Nordic Tenors is a music ensemble from Norway, which consists of three members. In 2018, they released a beautiful version of “You Raise Me Up” on their album Viva La Musica, along with other stirring classics.

Nordic Tenors is known for more than their powerful voices.
The group is made up of singers Sveinung Hølmebakk, Roald Haarr, and Jan-Tore Saltnes. But in addition to having incredible musical talent, they also entertain audiences with comedy too. As they explain on their website:

Bella Notte is the name of their first show, which they debuted in 2005. The next year the trio was presented with a comedy award for “Newcomer of the Year.” Since then, Nordic Tenors has continued to have success – including creating albums, putting on enjoyable performances, and going on an annual Christmas tour.

The tenors’ YouTube channel is filled with a variety of videos, many of which are very heartwarming.
With just a quick scroll, you can find covers of songs like “Amazing Grace,” “Hallelujah,” and “Bridge Over Troubled Water.” There’s even a vibrant medley of Disney tunes that they performed at one of their Christmas shows.
The Nordic Tenors’ version of “You Raise Me Up” might just leave you chilled…
In the video, the three vocalists stand in a studio dressed stylishly in tuxedos. Haarr takes the first solo with his angelic voice, accompanied by piano music in the background.
As we know, the lyrics to “You Raise Me Up” are moving on their own. But mixed with his talent it almost leaves a lump in your throat.
Hølmebakk then takes over and shines in the spotlight.
The musician has a stunning voice that immediately emerges when he goes into the chorus. As their website shares, Hølmebakk attended Bergen’s Grieg Academy.
When they harmonize it gets even more glorious.
Each man has his own heavenly sound. But listening to them sing the lyrics as one brings it to another level. You can even see the passion in their faces.
Saltnes has a beautiful solo as well.
He’s not just a talented tenor though. Interestingly, his background also includes heavy-metal, boy bands, and dance bands.
“You Raise Me Up” is a song that gets more chilling as it goes on. Nordic Tenors’ rendition is no different.

The song was created by Secret Garden’s Rolf Løvland and Irish songwriter Brendan Graham. Over the years there have been many artists to cover it – with Josh Groban’s version becoming a huge hit. This one might also move to your list of favorites.
