Anybody who has watched American Idol over the last 21 seasons knows that personality is just as important a factor as talent.

Having a fun, bubbly personality helps contestants gain fans and win over the judges.

For one young woman, however, her glib personality almost made her lose out on the chance to go to Hollywood.

Sara Beth, a 25-year-old mother of 3 from Roseville, California, let her nerves take over a bit when talking to the judges.

She bounced around with excess energy, and when judge Lionel Richie asked her how she made the jump from mom to music, her response started by calling him ‘dude’.

Though Lionel didn’t say anything about that, Sara Beth quickly realized what she had just done as she put her hands over her face and said, ‘I just called Lionel Richie ‘Dude’. Sir!”

She began to ramble a bit about how she enjoys karaoke with her friends and sang in the church choir when Katy Perry cut her off.

“Is this your dream?” the pop superstar asked her directly.

“Um… ugh…” she stuttered.

“If this is not your dream, you might need to leave now because there’s a lot of dreams behind you.” Katy was obviously not impressed by the answer, and Sara Beth surely knew she had said the wrong thing and just hoped her performance could save her.

When asked what she was going to sing for the panel, she stated that originally, she wanted to sing “Benny and the Jets” by Elton John but that her voice was a bit sore, so she switched to “You Know I’m No Good” by Amy Winehouse.

Accompanied by the American Idol musician on guitar, Sara Beth began the well-known song.

Her slightly raspy voice fitted the song quite well but didn’t show her full range, and Katy Perry was heard saying, “C’mon, we need more.” and “That’s not enough.” after the singer was done.

They encouraged her to try her original song choice of “Benny and the Jets,” with Katy saying that she didn’t have anything to lose as this wasn’t even her dream.

With the Idol musician accompanying her on piano this time, Sara Beth sang her heart out.

The song is much more upbeat than her first performance and let her show off her range a bit more.

When it came to the end of the chorus, where power is needed to get the right feel for the song, Katy could be heard encouraging her to feel it out more and get more into it.

With her very last line of the song, Sara Beth gave it her all, as could be seen by the flush of her cheeks.

She also said she felt like passing out afterward; whether that was because of the fact that she was singing in front of 3 globally known and loved musicians, or because of how much energy she put into the song, we do not know.

In the end, Luke Bryan was seen giving a standing ovation, proof that he really liked her performance, but would the other judges agree with him?
