Every year, Michale Bublé hosts a Christmas special on TV.
He sings his own Christmas tunes as well as brings other famous personalities and singers to perform with him.
One of the singers he invited in his 2013 Christmas special is Mariah Carey.
If you remember, Michael Bublé included in his 2011 album, Christmas, his own rendition of the Mariah Carey hit, All I Want For Christmas Is You. Two years later, he invited the original singer and perform with him on his show.
Mariah Carey released this classic holiday song in her first holiday album, Merry Christmas.
All I Want For Christmas Is You has become a Christmas staple and has been included in so many Christmas movies and albums.
In fact, as of 2017, the song has already earned around $60 million in royalties.
Written and produced by Mariah Carey and her songwriting partner, Walter Afanasieff, the song was released in 1994 and is showing no signs of stopping and decreasing popularity. It’s ironic how they didn’t want to make the album in the first place.
They believed, at that time, that artists only made Christmas albums because their careers were waning.
That wasn’t the case for Carey.
After all, she was just coming out from the award-winning and record-breaking success of her 1993 album, Music Box. But Tommy Mottola, Carey’s then-husband and producer, was conceptualizing future projects for Carey and included the holiday album.
“Back then, you didn’t have a lot of artists with Christmas albums. It wasn’t a known science at all back then, and there was nobody who did new, big Christmas songs. So we were going to release it as kind of an everyday, ‘Hey, you know, we’re putting out a Christmas album. No big deal,” Walter Afanasieff explained.
And now, the rest is history.
Mariah Carey was all too glad to join Michael Bublé on stage to perform her iconic hit.
Dressed in a short red dress and white knee-high boots, she took her bedazzled microphone and sang her heart out. It was a great performance between these two award-winning singers. They complemented each other so well with great harmony.
There was no ego in this performance.
Michael Bublé recognized that this was Mariah’s iconic song and he didn’t try to take it away from her. And Mariah knew this was Michael’s show and didn’t hog all the spotlight from him.
Both of them just wanted to deliver a great performance and entertain the audience.
The audience was enjoying the performance for sure.
They were swaying back and forth to the beat, clapping their hands, and smiling while they sang. Because at this point in the song’s popularity, around 99% of the population knows the lyrics to this wonderfully iconic song. Don’t you think so?
