Perhaps no song is more representative of the soul and funk genre than “Let’s Get It On” by Marvin Gaye. Everyone has heard of it before. It’s an all-time classic that was released in 1973 and to this day, it is still just as popular as ever. Because of this popularity, it has been covered dozens if not hundreds of times over the years by various bands.

Although, one of the best covers we have heard by far was done by the Southern Voice Band.

Their version has the perfect amount of smooth electric guitar and twang to get you pumped up and feeling good while not being over the top. Of course, there is plenty of original flavor as well. We wouldn’t want to stray too far from Marvin Gaye’s classic recording.

The guys and gals from the Southern Voice Band have an incredible amount of talent.

Yet, their “Let’s Get It On” cover was actually performed at what appears to be a small outdoor party. They can be seen playing on someone’s front porch in New England where all of the members hail from. The place was pretty much empty.

Although, based on how good they sound, we can only hope that they get a lot more recognition in the future. Put them on a big stage in front of thousands of people and they wouldn’t seem out of place at all.

“We’ve got one more song for you guys. Thank you very much for having us,” says member Annmarie Volpert at the start of the video.

It’s obvious that they saved one of the best songs for last.

As soon as vocalist and guitar player Ken Rose began singing, everyone in the crowd’s jaws dropped. No one could believe how incredible he sounded. If we didn’t have the video for proof, we would have guessed it was Marvin Gaye himself belting out the seductive lyrics.

The band is certainly impressive, and over the years, they’ve gotten several decent performances in.

At one point, they opened for popular country artist Craig Campbell. Another time, they got to perform at the VIP Show at the Jason Aldean concert in Hartford, Connecticut

All in all, Southern Voice is still just a small-town contemporary country cover band.

They have yet to gain any major fame, except on YouTube. Their surprising Marvin Gaye cover has received close to 90 thousand views since it was posted a few years back.

“Thanks for all the nice comments (this is Ken). Had I known this video was going to get so many views I would have spent more time picking out my clothes,” jokes singer Ken Rose in the comments section.

Maybe a little bit of Internet fame is exactly what is needed to propel Southern Voice to stardom.

We have to say, they sound just as good or better than most of the people we hear performing on shows like American Idol, or The Voice.

Although, they don’t let the nice words of Internet listeners over-inflate their egos. Really, their modesty is a big part of what makes them so alluring. Amidst a sea of amateur cover bands, Southern Voice is truly an undiscovered gem. One day, we would love to get a chance to see one of their epic country-inspired performances in person.
