Vanessa Sabrina Gnaegi, more popularly known as Ladyva, is an exceptionally talented pianist. The Swiss musician is known for the incredible way she performs boogie woogie, blues, and jazz on the piano.

She was only fourteen when she started playing, inspired by – you guessed it – iconic boogie-woogie musicians. To give you a little background on the genre, boogie-woogie’s sound is characterized by a repetitive swung note or shuffle rhythm, like the blues. It was developed in African-American communities and became popular in the 1920s but before being recognized as another fun music genre, it was mainly associated with dancing.

She released her first album in 2009, and signed with Universal Music in 2011.

Aside from gracing the music industry and fans the world over with her album, she’s also made several appearances in boogie-woogie festivals.

For the music enthusiasts who appreciate boogie-woogie as much as Ladyva does, they can immediately tell the song being played is originally by Albert Ammons, an influential musician from Chicago, Illinois. The late pianist serves as one of Ladyva’s inspirations and like her, started playing at a very young age.

The notable boogie-woogie pianist died before he turned 43, but through Ladyva’s music, his memory lives on.
