Is there anything better than a good competition?
Ever since the 2016 Summer Olympics, just about everyone has become an expert when it comes to critiquing gymnastics.
With famous faces like Simone Biles, Laurie Hernandez, Gabby Douglas, and Aly Raisman heating up the floor for Team USA, it was easy to find gymnasts to idolize.
Well, we might want to add Katelyn Ohashi to that list now!
Katelyn is a 20-year-old American gymnast that competes for UCLA and she is already a two-time All-American athlete.
She boasts a very impressive career for someone who has only just entered her twenties! Katelyn is a four-time member of USA Gymnastics’ Junior National Team, the 2011 junior national champion, and the winner of the 2013 American Cup.
Katelyn has made headlines after an impressive floor routine at the 2018 Pac-12 Women’s Gymnastics Championships on March 24, 2018.
She choreographed her routine to a medley of Michael Jackson hits and she laid it all out on the floor.
“On the floor for UCLA, she is ranked #2 in the country, she has three perfect 10s, and all she needs is 9.6”
There was quite a lot of pressure at the moment, but Katelyn pulled it off and gave the judges an incredibly fun routine to watch.
She landed a perfect double layout, then danced her way out of it and even managed to work an incredible moonwalk into her routine. Michael Jackson himself would be proud!
UCLA fans were out of their seats and out of their feet as Katelyn continued her routine. Her team also could be seen dancing along to her routine off to the side.
Katelyn’s routine was shared by International Gymnast Magazine on Facebook and it has been viewed over 47 million times!
The video has over 815,000 likes, 850,000 shares, and 58,000 comments on Facebook. People are loving Katelyn’s moves!
People were quick to mention how supportive her teammates and friends were in the background, as well as many commenters were praising Katelyn for her immense talent.
One commenter wrote:
She really has a passion for what she does. This is someone who really takes pride in what she love doing. Everything was on point even her landing when she came off the air spin. This what being a gymnastics is about
At the end of her routine, Katelyn landed a 9.95 out of 10 on her floor score. On top of that, she also scored 9.65 on bars and 9.90 on beams.
UCLA came out of the competition on top and placed #1 for the 2018 Pac-12 Women’s Gymnastics, with Katelyn’s scores of the day helping seal the deal.
After the meet, Katelyn reflected about the big day on Twitter the following day:
“last night was laying in my bed and reflecting on the meet. my conclusion was just how amazing this team is. everyone had/has each other’s back and we never stopped fighting. wasn’t a great start but was an incredible ending and memory.”
