When you attend kids’ dance competitions you’re guaranteed an evening of awesome entertainment.

There are some acts, however, where it only takes a moment to know it’s going to be extra good.

During a Kids Artistic Revue (KAR) dance competition, the audience got an up-close look at an energetic, award-winning performance that surely had people dancing in their seats. It begins with eight girls on stage faced away from everyone. But within the first notes of the song, they really crank things up.

Who’s ready to “Footloose?”

Whether you’ve never seen the movie or you’ve watched it a million times – you’ve probably heard the song “Footloose” over the past several decades. For many of us, it’s impossible not to bop along each and every time it’s played in a store or on the radio.

The young dancers in green are from the Temecula Dance Company in California. Once “Footloose” blasts into the auditorium they twist around and go wild, punching the air. Not only can you tell that it’s going to be an extra-entertaining performance (just with the song alone), but if you’re a fan of the movie – their little details will be like icing on the cake.

Are we missing somebody?

Just a short time into the girls’ dance, a ninth member comes bolting out onto the stage. It’s a boy dressed in a maroon jacket and he goes sliding on his knees. Okay, now we can get this party started!

It’s a high-energy dance routine that’s a blast to watch.

Get ready to tap along as these kids rock out on stage to the Kenny Loggins’ track we’ve been listening to since it was released in 1984. The troupe stays coordinated during the chorus:

“Now I gotta cut loose, footloose
Kick off your Sunday shoes
Please, Louise, pull me off of my knees …”

While we’re unsure of these kids’ ages, there’s no denying they’re quite fantastic dancers.

The routine was choreographed by Jimmy Peters, who is the artistic director at the Temecula Dance Company in Riverside County. According to their website, they’re “considered one of the top studios in the country” and believe their success comes from “high expectations, dedication, and commitment.”

Get ready for a mixture of talent, fun, and a blast from the past.

After you see these dancers in action, it’s no question they’ve had good training. But combined with an amusing routine that makes you want to put on your own dancing shoes? No wonder the crowd can’t hold back their cheers!

“Footloose” became a number one hit for Loggins, and Billboard ranked the film’s soundtrack as number three on their list of 1984’s top pop albums. The tune “Footloose” was also nominated for an Academy Award and a Golden Globe in the best “Original Song” category.

KAR is known as “America’s Favorite Dance Competition” and they travel annually to cities across the nation. Needless to say, they see a lot of incredible talent!

So how did the nine-member dance troupe do in the competition with their “Footloose” performance? As shared in the YouTube description, they earned the first-place prize in the category of Junior Musical Theater!
