Father Ray Kelly is a priest who lives in Ireland.
He is incredibly talented, and when he sings, it’s clear that it comes from the heart. He always enjoyed singing, but he never had a desire to try out for “Britain’s Got Talent” until his family members and friends urged him to do it.
Father Kelly seemed to be a little nervous on stage during his audition, but he’s no stranger to singing.
He already has a record deal with Universal Music and has released two albums. In fact, he has also produced a sellout Hallelujah Tour.
He also recorded a 10-track album called “Where I Belong,” which went platinum with more than 40,000 sales, and a 13-track Christmas album.
For his audition on “BGT,” he chose to sing “Everybody Hurts” by REM.
He has also recorded the song on one of his albums. The lyrics to the song are:
“When the day is long
And the night, the night is yours alone
When you’re sure you’ve had enough
Of this life, well hang on
“Don’t let yourself go
‘Cause everybody cries
And everybody hurts sometimes
“Sometimes everything is wrong
Now it’s time to sing along
When your day is night alone (Hold on, hold on)
If you feel like letting go (Hold on)
If you think you’ve had too much
Of this life, well hang on
“’Cause everybody hurts
Take comfort in your friends
Everybody hurts
Don’t throw your hand, oh no”
“Don’t throw your hand
If you feel like you’re alone
No, no, no, you are not alone
“If you’re on your own in this life
The days and nights are long
When you think you’ve had too much of this life to hang on
“Well, everybody hurts sometimes
Everybody cries
And everybody hurts sometimes
And everybody hurts sometimes
“So, hold on, hold on
Hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on
Everybody hurts
“No, no, no, no you are not alone.”
Before singing, Father Kelly explained that he liked to sing a lot of different types of music.
He said:
“I usually sing at mass. One song I sing is very popular; it’s one way of keeping all the Irish in the church until I finish!”
Father Kelly’s impressive voice shocked the audience.
They also weren’t expecting his song choice. The audience loved his performance and even gave him a standing ovation. Would it be enough to convince the judges to send him on to the next round?

As it turns out, the judges loved him, too.
Judge Simon Cowell spoke up first, saying:
‘I’m going to tell you something. This is one of my favorite ever auditions! I think your voice is beautiful. I love the version of the song. This is everything we’ve been waiting for. I absolutely loved it.”
Judge Alesha added,
“Everybody was listening to the words and relating it to their own lives.”
All of the judges and the entire audience rose to their feet and gave Father Kelly a standing ovation.
It was clear that his talent had touched them. The same way he brings people to their knees to pray in church, he had brought people to their feet to applaud him.
He was headed to the next round, and his voice was going to be heard by a lot more people. All of that singing in church had paid off, and now his voice is going to make him famous. The future looks bright for this Irish priest thanks to his amazing voice.
