The Barefoot Contessa star is married to her long-time husband Jeffrey, and they are a couple who inspires itgers because of their love story that started more than 50 years ago.
The 70-year-old actress met 71-year-old Jeffrey back when she was just 15 years old.
It was 1963, and Ina was visiting her brother at Dartmouth College when she first laid eyes on Jeffrey who was also a student in the same school.
Ina shared that he saw her on the street and then wrote her a letter wherein he included a picture of himself in the envelope.

Ina shares the moment she got Jeffrey’s letter as if it was yesterday.
The actress recalls how she reacted when she opened her future husband’s letter back then.
She was screaming ‘Mom, Mom, you’ve got to see this picture of this guy. He’s so cute!’
That was the start of their romance, and after 5 years, the couple tied the knot. It was in the year 1968.

A year after their marriage, Jeffrey had to travel to Thailand where he was deployed in the army.
The couple had no other choice then but to rely on writing letters to each other.
Their marriage was still young and yet, they had to be apart but it was something that they overcame. Jeffrey claims that he wrote to his wife every day.
She was all he could think about.

The couple can only call each other once a year and it was too short a time to say all of the things they wanted each other to know.
It was through letters that they found a way to communicate and it was a very important part of their love story.
When Jeffrey came back, the two of them always were looking for ways to enjoy the company of each other.

They went on dates and even made Paris a home away from their home.
The city was their romantic getaway every year, on their anniversary.
Jeffrey used to go to Connecticut every day to teach at Yale where he is a professor in the School of Management. Ina, on the other hand, worked from their East Hampton, New York home.
They only got together on weekends.
For the next 40 years, the couple went on the same routine and Jeffrey would always send sweet love letters that made Ina’s day each and every time.

When the pandemic struck, the couple had the opportunity to live together in their home.
They enjoyed each day together, but even with them being together, Jeffrey still made love letters for his beloved wife.
It was something that fueled their love even more and made their story “couple goals.”
What a sweet love story, right? And that’s after 53 years of marriage!
