School talent shows are always fun to watch. It’s a great way to showcase what you can do, get support from your family and friends, and break out of your shell. Among the most common acts include singing, dancing, and acting but the really creative ones take the opportunity to step outside of the box and surprise their audience with the unexpected. Some kids do stand-up comedy, some juggle and perform magic tricks, some do ventriloquy, and so much more.
Then you have the funny, confident ones who take the typical and turn it into an act that promises entertainment and delight.
They’re the ones who know how to break the ice and give the audience what is least expected. Thanks to their crazy-fun ideas, talent shows are never boring.
That’s just what The Love Mavens did for their high school talent show. What was supposed to be just another dance performance turned out to be a funny number complete with costumes and props.
Probably used to being the life of the party, the trio already seem pretty popular among their peers judging by the way the audience started screaming and cheering even before they took their places onstage. In fact, the introduction wasn’t even wrapped up yet but everyone was clearly eager to see what the three boys had in store for them.
You just can’t miss the loud applause, whistles, and cheers that intensified the minute the stage lights dimmed and the song started playing.
With “Ice Ice Baby” by Vanilla Ice as their background music, The Love Mavens had the audience laughing and clapping when they began moving to the beat and lip syncing to the song. The good-natured trio hardly seemed to care if they were keeping in time with each other (or the beat of the song!) or not – all they knew was they were having a good time on stage and everybody else seemed to love it.
The Love Mavens even have stage names! Meet Tooty Ice, 2 Gloves, and Double Trouble.
Sporting bright yellow long-sleeved tops, rolled up khaki pants, colorful and printed high socks, and sunglasses, The Love Mavens bopped their heads as they mouthed the lyrics and moved across the stage, prompting giggles and cheers from the audience. They even brought out glow sticks! Makes you wonder how the planning process and the rehearsals went.
This is what a good act should be: light, captivating, and entertaining. While it’s always impressive to witness kids flawlessly demonstrate their expertise in art, dance, music, and what-not, it’s also refreshing to watch the laid-back ones take the stage with confidence. Their aim isn’t always to bag first prize – it leans more towards putting on a good show for a supportive audience that knows how to appreciate a good (and funny) surprise.
Be sure to watch out for the costume changes and the goofy moves!
