Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone released in the U.S. in 1998 (while Philosopher’s Stone came out in the UK in 1997). A few short years later, in 2001, the first Harry Potter film was released and it has been Potter madness ever since.

Even though Harry Potter has been around for over 20 years now, it is still just as popular as ever. In fact, there are moments due to pop culture that it seems Harry Potter is even more “in” now than when it was first released.

Thankfully, Potter lovers don’t have to say goodbye to the series even though the last original Harry Potter film came out over 7 years ago already.

With the Fantastic Beasts series, there has been a resurgence in the genre and new Harry Potter memorabilia and merchandise releases every month.

On top of that, people continue to keep HP around with performances. Just recently, a high school group went viral after their homecoming assembly.

The performance begins with one student underneath a set of stairs, much like an 11-year-old Harry Potter who once lived in a cupboard under the stairs in his aunt and uncle’s house.

Over the loudspeaker, a recording from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone can be heard, where Harry reads his Hogwarts letter. Then the tune to the Harry Potter theme song, “Hedwig’s Theme” by John Williams, begins to play.

A series of big moments from the first film are then recreated, like Harry being sorted into Gryffindor on his first night at Hogwarts.

Then an assortment of different popular songs you’ve heard a million times on the radio begins to play, while the students start dancing in sync with one another.

Throughout the nearly 7-minute long video, more moments from the Potter film series are interspersed in the dance. Like the first flying lesson the Hogwarts students had, Harry and Draco Malfoy dueling, Harry’s big “Expecto Patronum!” moment, and more.

The students behind this incredible performance are from Walden Grove High School in Sahuarita, Arizona. The Performing Arts Crew (also known as the PAC Dance Team) put together the performance for their school’s homecoming assembly.

The video was shared on the school’s PAC YouTube account on September 29, 2018, and since then it has gotten over 4.7 million views on the platform. That isn’t including the shares and views it has gotten on other platforms, like Facebook and Instagram.

If you think these students and their incredible moves look familiar, you might have seen them on TV! The PAC Dance Team recently appeared on America’s Got Talent with their Wizard of Oz themed audition.

They didn’t make it far on AGT, but just getting on the show is a huge accomplishment for a high school dance team. They have a lot of reason to thank their coach and choreographer, Kristi Lopez.

What do you think of this homecoming assembly? I wish Harry Potter was this popular back when I was in high school. I’d have killed to take part in this assembly performance!

Make sure to share this with the Potterheads in your life!
