Few people on Earth have inspired quite as many people as Beyoncé. Though she has been active since 1997 making singing, writing music, acting and putting on incredible live shows, she’s only gotten more and more popular as the years have gone on. Although it’s hard to top Beyoncé when it comes to live performances, that doesn’t stop others from taking inspiration from her and trying their best.

In particular, one gymnast at the University of California in Los Angeles took particular inspiration from Beyoncé.

It all happened at a gymnastics meet between UCLA and the University of Arizona.

Senior Hallie Mossett was up to do her floor routine. She began from an incredible stretch position as Beyoncé’s ‘Formation’ started playing. After some impressive maneuvers, she rose up to pull off some impressive aerobatic maneuvers—and landed perfectly on the beat. In a moment, the crowd was on their feet cheering and the announcers had taken notice as well.

Still, there was much more of the routine to come.

After that initial phase ended, the music shifted into Beyoncé’s song ‘Partition.’

All perfectly in sync with the music, Mossett completes a series of highly-precise movements before executing a few more complex moves—a few mid-air splits done perfectly. After a few more moves, she lifts herself up from the ground and with a flourish starts the next portion of the routine. The song switches to ‘Single Ladies’ as Mossett doesn’t miss a beat.

To the approval of the crowd, she sets into the iconic dance from the original music video.

For the grand finale, Mossett does a few more of the video’s iconic moves before setting into her last section.

A moment after that, Mossett sets into an ambitious double pike jump and lands it perfectly! The crowd goes wild once more. After a few more impressively executed moves, the routine ends and her teammates rush forward to hug her as she almost falls to tears. As it turns out, it wasn’t just the audience or her teammates who were impressed with the performance—the judges were blown away as well.

As a result of her amazing routine, Mossett got a 9.975 out of 10 score.

Although the meet was a team effort, Mossett’s performance helped clinch the victory against Arizona.

When everything was done, the final scores were UCLA 197.725 and Arizona 196.275—talk about a close victory! The performance marked an all-time career high for Mossett and earned her a Pac-12 Specialist honor—the fourth of her career at that point. Though Mossett started her gymnastics career when she was only five years old, not even she could’ve expected to come so far in her lifetime. Interestingly enough, there’s even an interview of Mossett available online that interviews her much earlier in her career when she was on the junior national team!

If this one performance wasn’t enough for you, YouTube has a handful of her other performances online as well.

There’s another impressive performance of hers against Alabama which earned her an impressive 9.95 as well.

For more of a behind the scenes look at how a performance like this comes together, there’s also a video of her floor debut in practice as well.

Above all, Mossett’s extreme poise is a testament to her hard work and dedication to her craft.

While Mossett proved she was incredible at what she does, it definitely helps to have a little extra inspiration from Beyoncé as well! And who knows? Maybe the Queen Bee herself even saw her performance.
