Her version adds so much spooky soul to Gnarls Barkley's classic hit song!

Over a decade old, “Crazy” by Gnarls Barkley seems to be a song that everyone in the world likes.

It’s funny how there were multiple covers by famous people and the song always sounds different. No wonder Cee-Loo described it as “shapeless and formless.” The track takes the best out of the artist who performs it. It’s only natural to wonder what it would sound like in its simplest form: stipped down on piano.

This performance shows that perfectly!

Inspired by Nina Simone and Ray Charles, Angela decided to create some 21st-century jazz.

Angela Ricci, a singer-songwriter from the United Kingdom, began her career as a YouTube artist who covered various popular songs. She said that she aims to “position the nostalgic genres into today’s day and age, by adding a fresh pop spin.” It sounded promising, so we checked out some of her music. Ricci’s latest album Isn’t It Funny came out in 2015, and we were quite surprised by it. The fresh pop spin is quite noticeable. With 41,400 YouTube subscribers, Angela is well on her way to a huge commercial success.

The Kooks, Nelly Furtado, Maroon 5, Prince, and Billy Idol are some of the numerous artists who have covered “Crazy.”

The debut single by American soul duo Gnarls Barkley was leaked in late 2005, months before its official release. It quickly topped the charts worldwide, and it peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100. It won a Grammy Award for Best Urban/Alternative Performance. In 2010, “Crazy” was placed at number 100 in the updated version of Rolling Stone’s list of 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. All the previous facts make it safe to say that the song is immensely popular.

It a statement we can easily agree with.

When Angela sings, we give her our undivided attention—that’s just the kind of performer she is. Her strong stage presence and clarity of voice are incredible. Aaron Paul’s piano accompaniment perfectly fits together with Angela’s sensual, satiny vocals. It gives us a different point of view on the original!

The way she enunciates the lyrics makes an altogether outstanding interpretation of a song that the world loves so much.

Her pure, warm notes go hand in hand with so much emotion.

When Ricci sings that “bless your soul” part, you can feel all the meaning that was packed into those three words. “Musically, I’ve found that some of the best songs are the least complicated,” she says, and we have to agree.

However, Angela made this version simple and complicated all at once.

Today, she’s the lead singer of The Brand New Heavies, an acid jazz and funk group from London.
