In this stressful world, we could all use little bits of positive distraction throughout the day. Luckily, there are tons of entertaining videos floating around the internet to help make us laugh, smile, and lift our hearts.
The performance below was captured at the 2020 Showbiz dance competition in Phoenix, Arizona. Not only is it an incredible display of talent – but the classic song in the background adds to the beauty of it too.
Six-year-old Harper Schwalb is the little star of the performance. Her lyrical solo dance is set to “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.”
At the start of the video, the youngster walks to the middle of the stage dressed in a sparkly blue costume. Moments later, a child’s voice fills the auditorium and Harper begins to move with grace.
A special version of the Wizard of Oz tune was chosen for Harper’s routine – one that seems very fitting.
There are many soul-lifting covers of “Over the Rainbow,” including one by English singer Connie Talbot. She’s the cutie who stole everyone’s heart on Britain’s Got Talent in 2007 at the age of six.
During Connie’s audition, she actually sang “Over the Rainbow” and brought judge Amanda Holden to tears! The youngster’s debut album also features a “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” track.
Harper’s dance is set to Connie Talbot’s rendition of the song, and it’s a breathtaking combination indeed.
The tiny performer’s moves are slow, expressive, and show how gifted she is in the art form. Simply by watching her, you can tell that a lot of hard work and dedication must have gone into reaching her skill level too. Isn’t it mind-blowing what some kids are able to achieve at such young ages?
Harper’s routine was choreographed by Aly Slone from Club Dance Studio. It mixes with the pace of the song beautifully and is made up of different techniques that pair well with the lyrics. According to LiveAbout:
“A lyrical dancer uses movement to express strong emotions, such as love, joy, romantic yearning or anger … Movements in lyrical dance are characterized by fluidity and grace, with the dancer flowing seamlessly from one move to another, holding finishing steps as long as possible.”
“Over the Rainbow” is a song that makes a lot of listeners think about hope.
Who can forget when Dorothy sang the words dreamily from her family’s farm in Kansas – or perhaps Pentatonix’s cover gives you chills. Israel Kamakawiwo’ole’s version incorporates another powerful song, “What a Wonderful World.”
Listening to Connie Talbot’s voice as Harper dances is another stunning combo that might just be a ray of sunshine in your day. On Connie’s VEVO YouTube channel, some have left comments that her singing leaves them emotional.
One person wrote:
“My tears naturaly flows out everytime she sing this song and I do not know why.”

This kid is going places.
While we don’t know if Harper received an award for her dance performance at the Showbiz dance competition – there’s no doubt she has a bright future ahead. After all, it’s hard to believe how talented she is at only six-years-old!
