A lot of us hold Shania Twain’s 1998 hit song “You’re Still the One” as a dear childhood memory that’s probably a reminder of a first crush.

The track was Twain’s first top-ten hit in the United States.

Dakota Rhodes, a talented young musician, has got the incredible voice and talent to match the famous Canadian singer.

In 2019, Rhodes recorded the cover of the beautiful song and was noticed by Shania herself! From that moment on, her YouTube views have kept going up—currently all the way up to five million. It’s not hard to understand why—just listen to Dakota’s magical vocals and it’ll clear everything up.

Rhodes started playing guitar when she was 12. A decade later, she plays guitar, banjo, ukulele, piano and mandolin, taking the process of creating her music very seriously.

It’s not a problem for Dakota to perform for 30 people or a crowd of 5000.

She says that she “loves the audience, and the approach is equally passionate.” That passion she’s talking about on her official website is what we first noticed in this performance.

Let’s remember that “You’re Still the One” was nominated for four Grammy Awards in 1999 and won two.

Rhodes explained that the “absolute obsession with the song” prompted her into recording the cover. Comfortable at home with an acoustic guitar on her lap, Dakota created a wonderful piece whose arrangement impressed us a lot. Less is certainly more in this one, and Rhodes proved that sometimes you only need an acoustic guitar to touch the world’s heart.

As it turns out, this cover has even been streamed more than half a million times on Spotify.

Dakota’s I AM EP shows that she’s constantly growing with her music. The latest single “My Mama Knows” was released in 2019, and the official music video is available to watch now. If you love country songs, give it a listen!

It’s definitely a successful cover if people can’t stop listening to it.

Every note she sings is on point, and her guitar playing is fantastic, too.

In the comments section, someone mentioned that her instrument looks quite a lot like an avocado.

It’s true—the guitar was painted green specifically for that reason, and it only shows more of Dakota’s originality. Her love for country music is in full display in this performance!

We hear a little bit of Avril Lavigne and Taylor Swift in Dakota’s voice.

The fact that people keep noticing it is a compliment all its own. One thing is certain: Dakota knows how to grab your attention. She simply keeps you coming back to the video (at least we’ve replayed it quite a few times).

The moment when she hits the Em chord is pure joy.

It made us want to hear her version of “Right Here Waiting for You” in the original key. Keep up the good work Dakota! We love the way you deliver songs and make them your own.
