These two made my day – and they’re good dancers too.

The best way to unload after a long hard day of work is dancing. Especially if you battle fire. These two firefighters certainly know that. Nate and Austin, in full gear, got together to do a line dance. Not easy in what they’re wearing.

No problem for these two. Nate and Austin are in peak physical condition which they have to be to fight fire and rescue people. It’s like dancing with a child on their backs. Easy.

What is line dancing?

They are choreographed dances done by people in lines or rows. The steps are repeated over and over as the dancers switch directions through out the dance. There is no physical contact whatsoever.

Dancers begin by facing the same direction, the front usually, then execute the steps together until they complete a full circle going back to the original direction. Even two people can line dance. Like these two men!

They are from Citizens Fire.

Since 1895, this staff by volunteer organization provides fire and emergency services as well as training and working at fundraisers. They are always open to volunteers with many positions available for those who’d like to be a part of the team.

Imagine being able to dance with Austin and Nate during work hours.

These guys are doing the basic one-two, three-four step but instead of the typical direction change, one of them does the same dance while circling his partner. A little twist from the fighters!

The viewers get it.

“The fact they can do that in full turnout gear plus air tanks is a feat in and of itself.”

You are looking at an easy 50-70 pounds of additional weight according to Patch. The PPEs and the gear need to be heavy and touch with the line of work they are in. It’s not just the fire they contend with. The possibility of walls collapsing, stairs giving under their feet, and many other hazards are the reality of being a firefighter.

It’s really a high risk job.

And the song?

It’s from a group called Rednex. “Cotton Eye Joe” was released in 1995 by this Swedish techno musicians who dressed up in dirty overalls and straw hats. It’s a rework of an old American folk song (obviously) which caught on eventually landing in 25 at the Billboard Hot 100. Who is Cotton eye Joe? Well we leave that up to you and your Google efforts.

What’s clear as day is that these two guys are having fun on the job which is how it’s supposed to be. That truck looks neat too!

Ironically, a guy named Joe left a comment,

“So this is why I see lights on in the fire stations late at night some times :O An invitation would be warmly accepted.”

You get the feeling that all the pieces are falling into place. This line dancing duo may become a trio of fun should they extend an invitation to good old Joe. This time without the heavy gear. Everyone wants to see that!

The station should be open for visitors so if anyone wants to meet Austin and Nate, and maybe have a little dance around, all they need to do is ask. Might as well have a bit of fun while they’re at it.
