The ultimate goal for every dance competition is to do your best but to also get a perfect score. Being awarded a perfect score is almost impossible, there has to be no mistakes throughout the entire routine.
The dance group from Expressenz dance studio were able to receive a perfect score and it is an unbelievable performance.
Expressenz is a dance center that was created in 2008 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Since its opening the dance center has only grown. It has grown in students and in studio space. The classes range from ballet, jazz, hip hop, tap, technique intensive programs and much more.
Expressenz opened, “with a vision of fostering the love of dance among children. Expressenz is a home for all students, from the serious dancer to students who wish to dance purely for the enjoyment and recreation.”
The teen lyrical dancers put on a performance to the song “This is Me” and its choreography was created by Karla and Lisa Curatolo. This dance group is consisted of over 30 girls. Creating a choreography for that many girls is a hard venture.
Karla and Lisa must have known the talent within this group because the difficult dance techniques are executed perfectly.
The dancers are not always on stage at the same time and throughout the dance they have many transitions for smaller groups to display their beautiful moves. From the very beginning of the performance the viewers become entranced with the teen dancers.
These dancers are here to tell a story through the song and their dance.
The dancers move effortlessly though out the song. The dancers are one with the music and one with each other.
As Keala Settle sings the song, “This is Me,” the dancers are perfectly in tune with the lyrics.
“I am brave, I am bruised
I am who I’m meant to be, this is me
Look out ’cause here I come
And I’m marching on to the beat I drum
I’m not scared to be seen
I make no apologies, this is me”
The ability for all the dancers to come together and tell a gorgeous story through their dance is a beautiful performance to watch.
Many dancers have a solo moment to shine, but it is in tune with the dancers behind them. The attention of the viewers is enraptured by the entire stage. While many times a performance with that many dancers could get distracting, this dance does not.
The dancers are flowing together in their solo moments, smaller groups and full ensemble.
This dance group has picked the perfect song because just like the lyrics say these girls are warriors.
“We are warriors
Yeah, that’s what we’ve become”
The strength, precision and technique these teen girls have to complete such a dance makes them warriors. These girls look like professionals on this stage and they are only teens! It makes this performance even that much more remarkable.
These dancers deserve the perfect score they received. The training that must have occurred to dance their routine so perfectly was well worth it in the end. The dancers performed a perfect dance and for their hard work they received first place.
