The five ladies behind Citizen Queen are bringing a fresh sound to all women’s acapella.

In a time when it feels like all-girl groups are few and far between, it’s great to see there are still groups out there smashing it.

Not to mention the strong women-supporting-women vibes!

As an ode to the greatest groups that paved the way before them, Citizen Queen put together an extensive mashup of all their favorite girl band songs.

Singing just a few seconds of each hit, they work their way up from the 1950s to our present day. I’m sure it will come as no surprise that the likes of The Supremes, Destiny’s Child, and the Spice Girls are all included. I would be disappointed if they weren’t! Our journey through time begins in 1954, with “Mr. Sandman” by the Chordettes.

The black and white video sets the stage as the girls stand singing at their microphones.

A smooth transition leads us into the sixties, when “Stop in the Name of Love” took the world by storm.

By the seventies, “Lady Marmalade” was released.

It would get a revival again in the early 2000s, after being featured in the wacky but loveable film, Moulin Rouge. The ladies in Citizen Queen take this opportunity to transition into the more modern music, and dance their way into full color onscreen.

“We Are Family” and “It’s Raining Men” of course had to be included, and are a great way for the women to show off some of their dance moves.

As the girls confidently step forward in unison, you can really see how the girl power is starting to ramp up along the timeline. Yassss queens!

Still, the girl groups in the fifties and sixties weren’t quite as empowered as they would become during and after the seventies feminist movement.

Rolling into the eighties and nineties, we were gifted tunes like “Waterfalls” and “No Scrubs” by TLC and literally anything the Spice Girls put out (…including the movie, I won’t apologize for that.)

Their dance moves are slick and they all move so well together and in perfect time!

Each woman brings a different specialty to the table; Kaedi sings bass, Nina and Hannah are both sopranos, Kaylah is the alto, and then Cora beatboxes! Together they really can do it all.

They had to make a nod to the Pussycat Dolls, who were massively popular in the mid-2000s.

Does anyone remember watching The Search for the Next Pussycat Doll and then never seeing or hearing from the woman who won ever again? Or come to think of it, from any of the Pussycat Dolls?

Can someone please check on them and make sure they’re okay?

These women were brought together by Scott Hoying, the lead singer of the Grammy-winning acapella group Pentatonix.

He helped get them started and signed to a record deal, then made sure to hype them up on his Instagram.

“BELIEVE ME WHEN I SAY, these girls are some of the fiercest, most talented, kindest, hard working, SIIIIIINGING queens I have ever met.” – Scott Hoying

The group now has more than 50,000 Instagram followers, and almost 400,000 YouTube subscribers!

Their awesome compilation track definitely hits all the beats you’d expect to see from stars on the rise.

Many of the girls have been performing for years, and Hannah Mrozak even made it pretty far on The Voice, before finding her footing here with her group.

They work so well together I can’t imagine it any other way!
