There aren’t many things better than watching a great ice-skating performance to a phenomenal song. Skaters with serious talent have a unique ability to synchronize their bodies to the music. It’s as though they bring the lyrics to life. While many people give great performances, one young man did something that left the audience in disbelief.

Shallow

In April 2019, Adam Rippon skated to the song “Shallow.” If you don’t recall, that’s the one that Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper performed together in the movie “A Star is Born.” It’s a gorgeous piece with meaningful lyrics.

An unusual setting

Several things about this particular performance stand out. For one thing, it was held at an outdoor ice rink in Santa Monica, California. For another, the event took place at dusk. Also, instead of a fancy costume, Rippon was dressed casually in jeans and a black tee-shirt.

Beautiful and emotional

Soon after the music started, Rippon went into the theatrics. He’s instantly connected to the song, which showed in his initial movements. But there were many more exciting things to come.

Gliding on air

That’s what it looked like Rippon was doing. As the guitar strummed, he seemed to float on the ice. Everything he did with his feet, arms, and even facial expressions seemed so effortless. But to maintain that level of dignity as a skater doesn’t come easy.

Making an impression

Within just the first 15 seconds of the performance, Rippon had already left the crowd mesmerized. The audience followed him as he glided around the rink flawlessly. Doing some simple turns made the crowd eager to see more. And he delivered.

Perfect execution

It wasn’t long before Rippon aligned himself to do a triple axel, which he nailed. As he landed back on the ice, you could hear a pin drop. But that didn’t last long. Soon, the crowd erupted in cheers as a way to show their support and appreciation of his incredible talent.

Feeling every word

It’s clear that Rippon was listening to the lyrics. His choreography responded amazingly to each word. Sometimes, he skated tall while other times, he crouched low to the ice. You can feel the emotion just watching the video so being there in person must’ve been a fantastic experience.

Graceful and poised

Sometimes, male ice skaters have a difficult time being graceful. But this song demanded it. And Rippon wasn’t about to do a disservice to this beautiful piece or disappoint his fans. Especially with a pink sunset serving as the backdrop, the entire routine was stunning.

Untouchable

The class that Rippon showed on the ice was untouchable. We’re not sure any other skater could’ve done a piece as perfectly as what he did to this song. Every turn, jump, and twist were breathtaking. It’s no wonder that so many people cheered and threw flowers onto the ice when he completed the routine.
