Dangerous Trapeze Act Doesn’t Go As Planned On America’s Got Talent

Trapeze is one of the scariest things to watch.

You have to hide behind your hands if you’re afraid of heights – even though you’re not the person on the tightrope!

There is just an innate fear that something bad is going to happen. I mean, when people dangle dozens of feet off the ground, there is a high possibility that something could go wrong.

Sadly, that happened on a recent episode of America’s Got Talent.

During of the Judge Cuts episodes, when actor Ken Jeong appeared as a guest judge, two trapeze artists terrified all of the judges.

The first time that Duo Transcend appeared on America’s Got Talent, everything went smoothly, even if Mel B wasn’t a huge fan of them.

Heidi Klum, Simon Cowell, and Howie Mandel all voted “yes” for the pair, so they made it to the Judge Cuts round of AGT. This time, things didn’t go according to plan.

Duo Transcend is a real-life husband and wife, Mary Wolfe-Nielsen and Tyce Nielsen, and they are performers from Salt Lake City, Utah. The couple specializes in duo trapeze, aerial silk, tramp wall, diving, and acting.

For their second AGT performance, the trapeze artists got back up on stage (or should we say above it) to try and impress the judges.

Things seemed to be going great, that is until Tyce put a blindfold on. This might not have been the best idea, as Tyca previously told the judges his eyesight is so bad, doctors have told them to stop performing trapeze.

But Tyce and Mary feel a special connection when they perform, so he’s waiting to get the surgery, but continuing his trapeze in the meantime.

After Tyce put a blindfold on, things went wrong fast. They tried to execute a move where Mary dropped down to the same level as Tyce, but instead of grabbing her as planned, Mary fell through his hands and hit the stage.

All five judges were screaming in their seats and jumping up to see if Mary was okay. And thank goodness, Mary was fine!

She popped right back up and asked if they’d be able to try the stunt again. But Mel B told them that they were fine, while Ken told them it isn’t “America’s Got Perfectionists.”

Simon decided to add onto that sentiment by saying:

“I don’t think there has ever been a singer on any of competitions who has been note perfect. It doesn’t make them not amazing, it makes them human. The consequences of this are slightly worse than going off key, as you almost broke your neck!”

Even though they didn’t nail the perfect blindfold trick, the four judges still gave this couple the “yeses” they needed to go to the next round.

Since the video was originally shared on America’s Got Talent’s Facebook page, it has gotten over 12 million views, 18,000 likes, and nearly 8,000 shares.

One commenter thinks that this duo deserved the Golden Buzzer:

It is amazing and beautiful I am sorry I would of hit the gold button for them ,I know that sounds crazy but their performance was great I felt bad when she got dropped but the love they show for eachother is so amazing I thought they were great I hope they make it big

One Facebook user thinks this act should make it all the way to Vegas:

Las Vegas grab these two. There act deserves to be in Vegas and will be a sell out. I don’t understand how the judges let the young man, who sang opera in Italian, go. He more than proved himself. Hoping an agent picked him up for Vegas

While one YouTube commended them for continuing after the incident:

Just awesome. Salute to the lady’s spirit on offering to do the blind fold stunt again. It shows her dedication and her trust in her husband. Kudos to the duo.I would want them to win the competition. But they are winners in life already and they displayed it in this act.
