Her name is Debbii Dawson and she just brought ABBA back into the minds of her audience and viewers with her cover of “Dancing Queen” on America’s Got Talent.
In fact, the Swedish stars came back with an album in 2021 called Voyager, proving that they’re real life legends.
So Debbii here thought an ABBA song would be great since no other talent has really covered their songs.
Dawson is a singer, songwriter, and producer who was born in Minnesota.
She moved to San Francisco then settled in Los Angeles.
Debbii specializes in Indie Pop and R&B, putting unique acoustic takes on popular songs like this one.
She can thank her Indian roots for her musical talents, sharing that it was the piano that brought her mom and dad together.
They fell in love through music.
“The dream is for this not to be a dream,” she explained, “and for this to be my reality.”
The introductions were great, until Simon Cowell began teasing her as to why her mom and dad weren’t there with her, or at least in the audience to support her.
But as soon as Debbii starts plucking her guitar and singing her own melody of ABBA’s beloved classic, it’s clear that this young lady is not to be taken too lightly.
What an incredible voice!
Debbii serenades her cheering audience, the four judges looking in awe at the talent she is putting on display.
Where the original version is very rhythmic, putting one “in the mood for dance”, Dawson’s rendition puts one in the mood to lay back and just enjoy the stars with a loved one.
But she doesn’t detract from the original though.
See that girl, watch that scene, digging the Dawson queen!
BAD says in the comments section,
“The crisp of her voice is so delicately beautiful, its almost like it could brittle and wander the tone anywhere but its not. So Beautiful!”
Debbii just sounds so lovely and unique, like she’s more than ready to take on any show.
And what did the four judges have to say?
Mandel said, “The way you sound, it’s so sweet and soothing. You really do have a star quality.”
Vergara then gushed, “There’s something about you. I wouldn’t mind listening to your voice all day long. It’s amazing, I love it.”
Klum insisted on Debbii looking up more when she sings saying she’s so beautiful and, “It was beautiful what you just did.”
Cowell then said, “What everybody else said. I really like the fact that you’ve taken one of the most well-known pop songs of all time and made it your version.”
“I’m going to remember this audition and I’m really, really, really happy that you’ve auditioned on this show.” he added.
Debbii got all 4 Yeses but when the judges asked her to call her dad, David, the truth was revealed.
Howie and the judges asked him why he wasn’t there, to which David says Debbii asked him not to go. Oops!
