He’s a tough act to follow, and if you’re going to cover his music, you have to make sure you do it right.
But this daddy-daughter duet will blow your mind.
They’ve turned Groban’s classic operatic tune into a stripped-down, softer style. But their voices are both beautiful so they do the song justice! I would never have expected to hear this sung so flawlessly by a teenager and her dad, so casually in the comfort of their living room. But here we are.
Mat and his daughter Savanna Shaw have been singing together for years, but only started putting out their videos around the time of the COVID lockdowns.
They’ve since amassed over 120,000 followers on Instagram. But it’s no surprise—this talented duo are daddy-daughter goals! And we’ve all had a lot of time to sit and watch online videos while in quarantine, haven’t we?
The lyrics to this song are well-suited to these trying times, as they focus on hope for the future.
And believe it or not, this actually wasn’t meant to be a Josh Groban song in the first place. You see, he didn’t actually write this one. He writes the majority of his own music, but sometimes even the most talented of artists need a little help.
But why would any ghostwriter create a song with this kind of melody for any other artist? Who else could have possibly been more suited to it?
It was originally meant to be sung by Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli.
Okay, maybe they could have done as good of a job…but I’m Canadian, so maybe I’m a little biased.
But there’s no doubt Josh Groban’s version was a huge success, and now this Mat and Savanna cover is going viral too.
They’ve had more than seven million views… and I may or may not be responsible for about 5,000 of those.

Savanna has an incredible voice. I mean, I’ll be honest, I wouldn’t be surprised if she was cast as the next Disney princess.
She definitely starts out as the star of the show, but it’s clear when her dad starts to sing where she gets her talent from! Mat’s voice is smooth and strong enough to rival even that of Josh Groban. Do you think their voices work so well together because they’re related, or is it just pure luck? Either way, I’m happy they’ve decided to start singing and sharing their videos with the world.
These are the kind of good vibes the world needs more of right now.
Even though they’ve only been sharing their music for a few months, they’ve made a huge splash.
