Michigan tends to get a lot of snow. That means, especially for kids who attend classes in person, there are going to be a lot of snow days full of hot cocoa, goofing off, and turning off the alarm clock without getting out of bed.

However, it turns out that it’s not just the students who appreciate these blustery days. The teachers, principals, and other faculty who keep the school running also tend to end up in a very good mood once the snow starts coming down heavily enough to cause school closures.

These two school officials were in such good spirits that they decided to announce the school closing with a song.

Snow in style

They chose to go with the classic song Hallelujah for their announcement. However, they didn’t quite stick to the lyrics. They made up their own to create the video for their students.

The lyrics they created ahead of time fit perfectly, and they even managed to stay in tune for the most part. If they weren’t working at a school, they might have even had a chance in show business. They definitely have the personalities and creativity. Hey, there’s still the opportunity waiting out there for them if they ever decide they need a career change.

Belting it out

The two of them started the video with a claim that they would not be putting on sunglasses and singing their announcement. It would appear they lied. By thirty seconds in, the shades were on, and the piano music had started.

We already knew what was coming next. A few seconds later, we would be proven right.

The chorus they sang together went something like this:

“It’s a snow day, a winter cold day, a stay home and just play. It’s a great family day.”

A winter trend

As it turns out, they aren’t the only school administrators to get into a musical mood when the snow starts falling. The trend swept the nation, right along with the snow. These two, however, had their video go far more viral than the others. It has nearly 1.4 million views and 6,000 likes. That’s not bad for an announcement that was initially only really meant to be seen by the local students, parents, and community.

Thankfully, the magic of the internet brought it to the rest of us as well.

An enthusiastic response

This duet got a lot of praise on YouTube after posting their snow day announcement tune.

One former student noted how much life the two had brought to the school:

“I don’t think the administrators were this fun and amazing back when I attended Swartz Creek, not even years later when my 3 children were all Dragons! Great singing voices too! Love it!”

Singing it all

Their unique lyrics in the video announcement include this perfect gem:

“I know you want to be in school. Today, we just can’t accommodate you. Bring cookies, and I’ll try to get one on Wednesday. And even though we wrote this song, I’m sad and lonely when you’re gone. It’s a cold and it’s a snowy winter morning.”

…as well as a few other verses. You’ll have to check out the video below to catch them all.
