Hersch and Philharmonia start off by playing the start-up music to Microsoft Windows, followed by the sound for “you’ve got mail.”

The crowd bursts into laughter as the Philharmonia Orchestra mimics the sound Windows makes when starting up and alerting you that you have new mail. Next, Hersch instructs them to make the sound your computer makes when it crashes and can’t take anymore.

After that, they mimic the sound a Windows computer makes when it’s closing down and it’s spot on!

Their ability to duplicate the sounds as an orchestra is baffling, but they’re far from done and it only gets better. Now that they’ve identified the Windows sounds, they’re ready to put them to good use.

Next, the conductor explains that they have a certain theory about the Windows sounds.

He starts to explain the whole point of the Windows sounds, letting the audience in on the secret of why they believe they’re so important.

Hersch explains it to the crowd:

“And what we found ladies and gentlemen, if you put all those sounds together, you end up with the waltz. A waltz which is made out of the sounds you get on Windows. This is going to be the very first performance of the Windows Waltz.”

That’s when Hersch leads the orchestra in playing everything together, and you won’t believe the sound it creates!

When the Philharmonia Orchestra begins playing all the sounds together, it makes a truly gorgeous sound that you could actually waltz to! While playing the awesome Windows Waltz, Hersch makes one final joke as he slows them down before making the sound of your computer overloading.
